LaVerne “Vern” Eldeane McDougal, 77, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away on August 29, 2026.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atwood, Kansas, followed by Graveside service at Atwood Fairview Cemetery and a luncheon in the church basement.

We invite our parishioners and friends to join us in prayer and in offering Christian support to Vern’s family.
May he rest in peace.

AUGUST 15TH
Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven. A reminder that our true, ultimate home is in Heaven.
It is also the Patronal Feast Day of St. Mary's Church. This special occasion is always a time for us to come together in prayer, thanksgiving, and fellowship. We were honored to have our new Parochial Vicar, Father Fred Gruber, celebrate our Feast Day Mass. After ending mass with a special blessing for all students starting school, he joined parishioners and visitors, along with Father Henry and Deacon Vrbas, at the church hall for a delicious meal and visiting.
Thank you Father Gruber for the Blessed Virgin Mary medals available after mass.
Thank you to all who helped in any way to make our Feast Day a time to remember.
Special thanks to Julie Hafner and Nadine Green, Organizers of this event.
