JUNETEENTH PRAYER VIGIL
Central Congregational Church will open its sanctuary on Juneteenth, Friday, June 19, from noon to 1:00 p.m. for a quiet Prayer Vigil for Freedom. Juneteenth remembers the long-delayed announcement of freedom to enslaved people in Texas on June 19, 1865, and invites us to reflect on the ongoing call to dignity, healing, justice, and hope.
All are welcome to come for a few minutes or stay for the hour. Our church is an Oasis of Caring and Joy in the midst of an often lonely and challenging world. During the vigil time, the sanctuary will include space for silent prayer, reflection, candle lighting, and written prayers for our community and world as we long to unmask and dismantle the prejudice and discrimination rampant in our world. A brief optional time of shared prayer will be offered at the end of the hour.
