Daily scripture:
“Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.”
‭‭-1 Corinthians‬ ‭15‬:‭58‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Paul has been writing about the resurrection. Now he encourages the believers to be faithful where they are. In light of what is to come, he wants them to live godly lives and fulfill the Great Commission. They need to serve right up until the end. Praise God for His word. Pray that He would help you live righteously and spread the gospel in the time He has given you.

Daily scripture:
“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.”
‭‭-James‬ ‭1‬:‭2‬-‭3‬ ‭ESV‬‬

What does James mean when he talks about trials? He means anything that will test our faith and integrity. These could be everyday troubles or more specific spiritual issues. Anything that tests our faith will tempt us to behave like sinners instead of remaining faithful. When these things come, however, we can be joyful. Why? Because God uses them to refine us and mature us. His character in us is revealed when we respond properly. Praise God for His word. Pray that He would help you seek to stand strong and faithful in all circumstances.

Daily scripture:
“I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.”
‭‭-Psalm‬ ‭40‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭ESV‬‬

This morning we see David speak of God’s faithful rescue of him. David had been waiting on God. God delivered him and reestablished him. That led David to praise. We would do well to follow David’s example. Instead of giving up when things are difficult, we should learn to wait patiently. God is always true to His promises. He will work in His time according to His plan. Praise God for His word. Pray that He would help you wait and trust in Him.

Daily scriptures:
“But Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’ ”
‭‭-Matthew‬ ‭19‬:‭26‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Jesus has just told the disciples how difficult it is for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God. Jewish people at that time believed wealth signified God’s favor. The disciples were astonished and questioned who could be saved, then. Jesus tells them it’s impossible for man to save himself. We see Him point them away from mankind’s strength and works and directly to God. It’s impossible for sinful humans to do anything that can reconcile them to a holy God. Praise God for your salvation. Pray that He would help you see what a gracious, precious gift it is.

Daily scripture:
“fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
‭‭-Isaiah‬ ‭41‬:‭10‬ ‭ESV‬‬

This morning we see God promising to be faithful to Israel. They don’t need to fear, because He is with them and committed to them. He is in control and will do what is right. Christians aren’t being addressed in this prophetic passage, but all of these same principles apply to us. Our God is faithful and powerful, and we don’t need to be afraid. Praise Him for all He is and does. Pray that He would help you trust fully in Him.

Daily scripture:
“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.”
‭‭-Ephesians‬ ‭6‬:‭11‬ ‭ESV

My pastor did an amazing sermon series in Ephesians a while back, and the armor portion was one of my favorites. Christians can’t forget that we are at spiritual battle. We’re not battling other people. We’re battling the forces of spiritual darkness. Each day we must suit up to be able to withstand various evil schemes and temptations to sin. Praise God for His word. Pray that He would help you mentally and spiritually prepare each day.

Daily scripture:
“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
‭‭-Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭19‬ ‭ESV

This morning we see Paul promising the church that God will supply their needs. He doesn’t say their wants but rather their needs. Do some lack in areas of material things? Yes. Perhaps God knows our deepest needs are sometimes spiritual instead of material. As we consider this, we must remember the church at Philippi. They had given generously and sacrificially prior to Paul telling them this. Praise God for His provision. Pray that He would help you understand the difference between wants and needs and seek the things above.

Daily scripture:
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.”
‭‭-Psalm‬ ‭19‬:‭14‬ ‭ESV‬‬

This morning we see a psalm of David that expresses his desire to be pleasing to God. David wants to have a pure heart and the pure speech that leads to. In other words, he doesn’t want to be a whitewashed tomb. He wants the inside and outside to be right in God’s eyes. This should be the desire of each and every Christian. Examine yourself today. Pray that God would show you where you need to be pruned and purified to be who He has called you to be.

01/25/2023

Daily scripture:
“Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted.”
‭‭-Galatians‬ ‭6‬:‭1‬ ‭ESV

Even Christians seeking to honor God will sin. We’re not perfect. When sin overtakes us, though, our brothers and sisters in faith should be there to help us. Paul isn’t talking about people caught in known, unrepentant sin. He’s talking about when we stumble, an isolated act of giving in to temptation. As a church, we should work to restore believers instead of gossiping about them or tearing them down. Praise God for those Christians who’ve come alongside you after you’ve sinned. Pray that He would help you do the same for others.

01/23/2023

Daily scripture:
“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
‭‭-Romans‬ ‭5‬:‭1‬ ‭ESV

Our justification means we have been declared righteous. Because of this, Christians have peace with God. We have been reconciled to Him. We no longer have need to fear God’s wrath, which Paul spoke of early in this book. Jesus Christ made peace between us and God with His death, so we don’t have to fear that wrath. Praise God for His love for you. Praise Him for the peace and relationship you enjoy thanks to the work of the cross.

01/20/2023

Daily scripture:
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
‭‭-James‬ ‭4‬:‭7‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Submission to God means being humble. It means making His priorities your priorities. We must live for Him and not ourselves. Resisting Satan means we fight against temptations to doubt, deny, disregard, and disobey God’s word. Praise God for His word. Pray that He would help you seek to submit and resist.

01/18/2023

Daily scripture:
“Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”
‭‭-1 Timothy‬ ‭6‬:‭12‬ ‭ESV‬‬

This morning we see Paul encouraging Timothy to fight for godliness and things of the kingdom. Satan opposes us as we pursue sanctification. It is a goal worth fighting for, however. The apostle isn’t saying that Timothy won’t receive eternal life without waging this spiritual warfare. He’s speaking of the fullness of eternal life, not salvation. To be fruitful here on earth and obtain rewards in the next life, this is the battle we must wage. Praise God for His word. Pray that He would help you fight the good fight.
