You are invited to join us as we celebrate the launch of Oscar McCloud’s memoir, I Dared to Hope.

Published in conjunction of McCloud’s ninetieth birthday in April, the book explores McCloud’s early childhood in eastern Georgia as the son of a sharecropper, to his involvement in the Civil Rights movement, and leadership within the Presbyterian Church.

Attendees are invited for a BBQ lunch in Tull Hall, followed by a conversation in the sanctuary with Oscar and his co-writer, Martin Lehfeldt. Central members Jeff Hilimire and Andrew Vogel will be in attendance as part of Ripples Media publishing.

A ticket to the event includes lunch and a signed paperback copy of the book.

Curious about what's going on in our neighborhood?

Join us after worship on June 7th as we head to South Downtown to explore the exciting and welcoming changes happening in our own neighborhood. We will walk or take the MARTA-A Line shuttle just a few blocks away. You will have your choice of dining options, including pizza, BBQ, Thai, and more. At 1:30 pm and 2:00 pm, we will have two opportunities for a Q&A and a deeper dive into all that is happening with Jon Birdsong, the CEO of S**o Atlanta! He and his family will be joining us for worship as well!

STARTING NEXT SUNDAY, JUNE 7: What does it mean that we are made in the image of a creating God? This summer, we'll explore the deep connections between faith and creativity, from the Holy Spirit's role in our creative lives, to the metaphors we use to speak about God, to the ways our bodies, voices, and built spaces become instruments of worship. Through conversations with theologians, artists, architects, and musicians (many in our very own Central family), we'll ask together: What does it mean to make something? And what does our making say about who we are and who God is? Join us for a summer of beauty, wonder, and deeper reflection on the creative life of faith.

Fear makes us want to build walls and surround ourselves with people who look and think exactly like us. We try to control the unknown by keeping our circles small and uniform. But as Rev.Shannon reminded us this Pentecost Sunday, that is our human script. It is not God's.

God counters our desire for simple uniformity with a call for complex diversity. When we feel anxious about the state of the world, the faithful response is not to close ourselves off from difference. The faithful response is to open our arms wider.

Swipe through for a few powerful reminders from the sermon about choosing courage and connection over the illusion of control.
