Thursday Morning Bible Study: The Gospel of John |
Thursdays at 8:10am in the Upper Room

If you haven’t tried this class, yet, there are no prerequisites except a bit of curiosity. We will proceed through the text from the Prologue to the Resurrection. St. John’s Gospel is markedly different from the other three Gospels. It is nicknamed either the Spiritual or Theological Gospel. John clearly concluded the early Church needed another Gospel, but we did not need another history of Jesus’ life. John presumes his readers are familiar with the general details of Jesus’ ministry. St. John and St. Paul are the two great pillars of Catholic theology. You could say that John is more interested in the “Why” rather than the “What” of God becoming man and dwelling among us. John actually says, “pitching His tent in our midst.”

Please come and join us in exploring why Jesus pitched His tent in our midst. Likewise, where is His tent, today? Come find out for yourself. Please bring a Bible with you. All are welcome.

Staffing Changes at OLA

One of my earliest observations upon arriving at Our Lady of the Assumption in July of last year was how small our parish staff was compared with similarly sized parishes in our area. To get an objective assessment, I asked the Human Resources Department of the Archdiocese of Atlanta to conduct a staffing audit. The results confirmed that we were understaffed and needed to make some changes for the good of both the parish and our dedicated employees.

Since then, we have divided the previous faith formation role into two positions—one serving families and one serving adults—to better meet the formational needs of our community. In collaboration with Mandy Crock, principal of OLA School, we also brought our maintenance staff under a single Facilities Director, unifying the care of our entire campus: church, school and preschool.

I am now pleased to announce that Anne Stephens’s current role is being divided into two positions: Parish Life Coordinator and Communications Coordinator. A longtime OLA parishioner and member of our staff, Anne is especially well suited to serve as Parish Life Coordinator. She will help plan and coordinate the many activities and events that strengthen our sense of community. At a time when more and more people experience isolation and loneliness, her work will help make OLA a community where people feel they belong.

We are currently seeking a Communications Coordinator who will strengthen and coordinate how we communicate the mission, ministries and life of our parish and support its pastoral priorities.

I thank God for blessing our parish with such dedicated and hard-working staff. Please pray for them and for our parish as we continue to grow.

- Father Dan, Pastor

We're Hiring:
