Ever since the terms “social distancing” and “lockdown” first burst onto the scene, it has been clear that the impacts of COVID-19 would not just be
medical, or economic.

Families have had to face massive disruptions to regular life, whether from school being shuttered, social activities severely limited, increased financial strain, or stifling stay-at-home measures. These and other disruptions are bound to take a toll on the emotional wellbeing of our youth. Of course, each family is different, and some individuals are more vulnerable to these disruptions than others. Still, many teens have been left to feel isolated, unsure, and anxious; while parents are under increasing strain as they struggle to adapt, provide, and assume additional responsibilities.

Even as many organizations are forced to limit their activities, we remain committed to our community to offer whatever support we can. That is why we are sending you this handbook, Parenting in a Pandemic, that assembles thoughtful perspectives and practical advice for these challenging times from leading experts in teen mental health.

This booklet is dedicated to you for the loving sacrifices you make every day as a parent. We hope you find the advice in these pages useful, encouraging, and inspiring.

CTeen Intown Atlanta will be hosting a teen poetry workshop this Sunday, May 5, with National Student Poet Daniel Blokh, a 17 year-old award-winning Jewish poet and writer from Birmingham. He is going to speak about his creative process, read selections from his poetry, and lead a workshop where teens will create their own poetry.

Daniel’s work focuses on addressing national tragedies, bearing witness to injustices, and creating empathy for misunderstood communities. Specifically, he has written extensively on antisemitism and the challenges facing the Jewish community today.

This is a poignant and profoundly timely event, and is open to all Jewish teens.

The poetry workshop will take place at Chabad Intown this Sunday, May 5, from 5:30 - 7:00 pm. RSVP to [email protected].
