What’s One Thing?

What’s one thing God cannot create? I read this in the May-June edition of No Greater Joy magazine. (Free at no greater joy.org). The one thing God cannot create is CHARACTER. Not sure I totally agree, but I’m not going to split hairs. The point they’re making is very good.

Talking about marriage, “Being the husband or wife that scripture describes requires the one thing God cannot create: character. Character is not given; it is born on the battlefield of life - one choice at a time. It is growing up in public, with responsibilities on your shoulders-responsibilities to your spouse and to God.”

They go on to encourage you to read your wedding vows, focusing on that little phrase “FOR BETTER OR FOR WORSE”.

My point here is not really about marriage as theirs is, but rather about God not being able to create character. He may not create it, but He very much so works in those who follow Him to teach them, mold them and yes, build character in them.

In Freedom Readers we are reading about Jacob. A schemer. A bad young man that God Himself called to carry the promise of the chosen people and the Messiah that was to come. His life is a clear example of God taking someone with a deep controlling sin nature and turned him around for God’s own glory. So I agree, God cannot create character but He sure can work with someone yielded to Him.

There are moments in life that are enjoyable but something is always missing and only Jesus can satisfy that longing in every heart. Identity in Him is the only thing that satisfies. Listen to the words of this song and enjoy. 🥰
