Coming up!
Our next Lunch Box Thursday will be next Thursday, March 26 at 11:30 am in the Fellowship Hall. Do you work near the church? Need some company during lunch? Come and eat lunch with others from the church (and the church staff...we eat, too). Just bring your own food and we’ll provide the tables and chairs, and some drinks, too.

On Friday, April 3, we will host Good Friday worship here at the building at 7:00 pm. Then, on Easter Sunday we will host two worship services: one at 9:00 am and one at 10:30 am. Childcare and ACC Kids programming will be available at both services.

If you are new around here, or not yet plugged in to a small group but want to learn more- reach out to Ryan Snider to find out more! We have groups meeting all different times all over the city. There’s a place for you!

There’s an old saying that says, “God writes straight with crooked lines.” It the kind of thing that sounds like it’s in the Bible, even though it isn’t. Still, it carries a biblical truth. The Israelites wandered in the wilderness for forty years on a journey that could have taken just a couple of weeks. But what felt like a detour became the very soil where their identity was formed—where they learned dependence on God and discovered what it meant to belong to one another.

What kind of God chooses the long way around? Perhaps the same God who chooses a cross as the means of salvation.

I’ll admit—it’s hard to embrace the scenic route when we want efficiency. But again and again, Scripture suggests that the winding path is the place where we become who we are meant to be. Solvitur ambulando, it is solved by walking, we must say! Some things aren’t resolved by thinking harder or planning better. They are resolved by putting one foot in front of the other.

Our collect for today: Almighty and everlasting God, you hate nothing you have made and forgive the sins of all who are penitent: Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we, worthily lamenting our sins and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of you, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Join us tonight in the sanctuary for our Ash Wednesday Service. Worship will include the imposition of ashes and time for reflection as we move into the wilderness of the Lenten season. Be sure to pick up a Lent Field guide in the lobby, too. It explores the meaning of the season, offers practical ways to prepare, and includes a devotional for each week to help you reflect.

On Sunday we’ll begin our Lent class, Altar in the World, at 9:15am prior to worship. Barbara Brown Taylor’s text offers a beautiful reflection on attentive living, inviting us to discover the sacred in the ordinary. We hope you’ll join us for this six week class. Sign up in the church center ap.

This Sunday we will read the Transfiguration story. The Transfiguration marks the end of the Epiphany season, drawing a parallel between Moses’ experience on Sinai and the disciples’ vision of Jesus on Mount Tabor. So we’ll spend some time on top of the mountain, experiencing the height of Epiphany light before we begin our descent into the more reflective wilderness of Lent. It feels like the wilderness of Lent arrived early in our church. But can the Transfiguration give us some direction for our wandering? We’ll spend some time thinking about that tomorrow.

Coming up:
Wednesday, February 18th is Ash Wednesday. Join us that evening at 7pm for worship, reflection on the season to come, and the imposition of ashes.

ACC will be back together tomorrow, February 1. Coffee and donuts will be ready at 10 in the cafe and worship will start at 10:30.

We know this Sunday will be hard. Lindsey will be upstairs this week, guiding us through this first Sunday back. If at any time, you would like to talk or pray with someone, we will have a team down front to the left for you. Parents, all of our children’s classes will stay downstairs this week and not come up for worship.

Lastly, as we gather together again, there will be a lot of questions and emotions in the room. This Sunday is not a memorial service although we will be grieving together. This Sunday is not a day where we try to answer questions or plan ahead. It is a day for us to come together in our collective sorrow and simply be together. That’s the most important thing right now. We hope to see you there.

See you on State Street ❤️
