Come hear and see the word in action. Our church membership is small in numbers but very big in heart. Church History - -
In 1980, Archbishop Jean Davis organized a prayer band and witness team. Services were being held on the first and third Sunday of each month at the Center Hill Mortuary located at 2472 Bankhead Hwy NW. In October of 1984, Archbishop Davis went into meditation and prayer. It
was during this time that the Lord spoke to her and being inspired by the Holy Spirit, Archbishop Davis was instructed to organize a church in the city of Atlanta, GA. Although she was traveling extensively, this would mean that she would have to minimize her traveling as much as possible in order to oversee the church and its members. Archbishop Davis received divine inspiration from God to name the new congregation Church of Goodwill and Faith. She believed that all who were a part of this church had to be “good, willing and faithful” to service for the Lord. Meanwhile, Archbishop Davis and the Church of Goodwill and Faith congregation continued to have services at the Center Hill Mortuary. Ultimately, the mortuary went out of business and the church was blessed to be able to purchase the building as the current church home. Thus, the Church of Goodwill and Faith became officially organized with Archbishop Davis being the leader, overseer and pastor. She chose the following musicians: Bro. Bobby Watts – pianist and Bro. Donald Davis – drummer. In 1985, Archbishop Davis and the witness team journeyed from church to church spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. The witness team eventually became the B J Gospel Chorus. Then in April of 1986, the church was blessed with the formation of the trustee board. The following members were chosen for the trustee board: Evangelist Joann West – president, Sis. Sally Rainey – vice president and Sis. Lillian Edwards – treasurer. Things were progressing well until February of 1987 when a terrible mishap occurred. There was a fire which literally destroyed the church building. But with God’s blessing, the hard work of Archbishop Davis and the dedication of the members, the church was re-built. We were able to march back into the church ten months later. That glorious day was Sunday, December 12, 1987. On January 4, 1988, the Sanctuary Choir was born. Almost a month later on February 2, 1988, Archbishop Davis started the 8AM service. She remained as founder and pastor of this great church until God called her home on November 21, 2005. In December of 2005, Evangelist Joann West became the acting pastor. Then on June 25, 2006, she was officially installed as the pastor of Church of Goodwill and Faith. Pastor West continued to serve faithfully and was later elevated to bishop status in 2010. In 2011, Bishop West appointed Rev. Carolyn Jones as her associate pastor. Together they continued their work for the Lord. On December 6, 2012, Bishop Joann West made her transition from this life to eternal glory. Meanwhile, the church has moved on and is currently under the leadership of Pastor Carolyn Jones. Pastor Jones was officially installed as the new pastor in April of 2013. The church is also under the guidance of a new oversee, Elder Farris L. Long, II. and prelate Bishop Gary Wright. With God's help, they will carry on the legacy of their founder by continuing to strive to win souls for Christ.
