With deep sadness, we mourn the death of our brother in Christ, Rev. Edelmiro Cortés. Rev. Edelmiro "Pastor Ed" Cortés entered the Church Triumphant on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

He was ordained on March 5, 1967, and served congregations across Puerto Rico from 1967 to 1972 and from 1978 to1981, as a missionary in South America from 1973 to 1978, and served as Bishop of the Caribbean Synod from 1981 to 1987. Rev. Edelmiro Cortés served as Mission Director for Region 9 from 1989 to 1998.

The funeral service for Pastor Edelmiro Cortés will be held Sunday, June 21, 2026 at 2:30 pm CT at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 4887 Valleydale Road, Birmingham, AL 35242. Visitation will begin at 1:30 pm CT. A reception in the Narthex will follow the service.

Con gran tristeza informamos el fallecimiento de nuestro hermano en Cristo el Reverendo Edelmiro “Pastor Ed” Cortés. El Reverendo “Pastor Ed” Cortés entro a la iglesia triunfal el martes, 9 de junio de 2026.

Fue ordenado el 5 de marzo de 1967, y sirvió congregaciones en Puerto Rico de 1967 a 1972 y de 1978 a 1981, como misionero en Sudamérica de 1973 a 1978, y como obispo del sinodo del Caribe de 1981 a 1987. El Reverendo Cortés sirvio como Director de Misiones para la Región 9 desde 1989 a 1998.

El servicio funeral para el Pastor Edelmiro Cortés se celebrará el domingo 21 de junio de 2026 a las 2:30 pm CT (hora central) en la iglesia luterana Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 4887 Valleydale Road, Birmingham, AL 53242. La visitación comenzará a la 1:30 pm CT (hora central.) Luego del servicio habrá una recepción.

Favor indicar que el donativo es a la memoria del Pastor Edelmiro Cortés.
