Happy Holy Saturday!
This passion week, we are diving into the theme of Love Poured Out, and what that looks like for us as believers. Over the next few days, we’ll look at different attributes of love as described in the Bible and how they all point towards the ultimate display of love shown by Jesus on the cross.
We end the week in 1 Corinthians 13:7: “Love always protects. Love always trusts. Love always hopes, always perseveres.”
Holy Saturday might be the most solemn day in the history of the world; the day that the Son of God spent in the tomb, dead, bearing the sins of all generations - separated from God. And yet on this day we wait not with grief or sorrow, but with hope.
Love is not contingent on the circumstances of the now: on the contrary, love is a promise that though now might be hard, it will remain steadfast through it all. And so on Holy Saturday, we wait with hope. Hope, because on the following day Jesus conquers death and comes back to life. Hope, because he has washed our sins clean. Hope, because we know that he has already returned, and that he will do so again.
