Here is the Monday’s Manna for Monday:

In 1992 the USA men’s Olympic basketball team featured the greatest collection of basketball players ever assembled. Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Patrick Ewing to name just a few of the stars. That Olympic basketball team has become known as the, “Dream Team.” The Dream Team won the Gold Medal during the 1992 Olympics. They defeated their opponents by a whopping, 43 point average! 43 points! To say that this team set the bar high for other US Olympic basketball teams is an understatement.

That’s why many basketball fans were stunned when the 2021 USA basketball team lost to France’s national team to open Olympic play on Saturday. By all accounts team USA is a far superior team. The question for team USA is, how will they respond to this setback?

Beloved, when you look back on life's unpleasant events, you can choose to see what you learned from the ordeal, or you can just see it as a bad experience and get nothing else from it.

Brothers and sisters, as Christ-followers, in every trial, every problem, every difficult situation, God is seeking to teach us something new, seeking to take us to a higher place. Maybe it's a chance to exercise greater faith. Maybe it's a chance to identify bad behavior that we must change. Or maybe it's an opportunity to practice perseverance.

The lesson is always there in difficult circumstances; we can choose to be purified and made more like Jesus, or we can just allow ourselves to become burned and bitter.

“Many will be purified, cleansed and refined by these trials. But the wicked will continue in their wickedness, and none of them will understand. Only those who are wise will know what it means. Daniel 12:10

Blessings!

Richard Wurmbrand was a priest and professor. He served 14 years in prison. During his time in prison he was tortured almost daily. Three of those years were spent in solitary confinement. This confinement was in a cell 30 feet underground, with 50 pounds of chains on his feet and chains on his hands, with no lights or windows. He never heard a sound as the guards wore felt-soled shoes to mute the sound as they walked in the prison. And what was his crime? Preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Brothers and sisters, there are many Christ-followers world over who suffer persecution for placing their faith in Jesus Christ. Some of them like Mr. Wurnbrand suffer extreme persecution. Yet their faith in Jesus Christ is not shaken. “The world was not worthy of them” (Heb 11:38)

May our faith in Jesus Christ, though not tested as severely as some of our persecuted brothers and sisters, stand firm, unshaken and immovable.

“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.”

Matthew 5:11

Dr. Kizzmekia S. Corbett is the developer of the Moderna coronavirus vaccine. In February 2021, Dr. Corbett was highlighted in Time magazine’s, "Time100 Next" list under the category of Innovators, with a profile written by Dr. Anthony Fauci. In the Time's profile, Dr. Fauci wrote that Dr. Corbett has "been central to the development of the Moderna vaccine and that, "her work will have a substantial impact on ending the worst respiratory-disease pandemic in more than 100 years.”

As a young child Dr. Corbett’s fourth grade teacher, recalls recognizing her talent at an early age and encouraging Dr. Corbett’s mother to place her in advanced classes. "I always thought she is going to do something one day. She dotted i's and crossed t's. The best in my 30 years of teaching.”

When others recognize our potential and they encourage us to pursuit our potential the sky is the limit. Our Great God has also recognized our potential. He has always known what we can do. Also, He encourages us to reach our potential.

Brothers and sisters, we may not develop a vaccine to slow the spread of a pandemic. We may not provide a solution for world peace or discover a cure for a chronic illness. But we have the potential to do much more than we imagine, if we place our lives in the Hands of the One who can do great things in us.

Monday Manna:

All too often we want to tell God not only that He needs to bless us, but we also tell Him where He needs bless us. “Lord, bless me with… a new job, a new car, new place to live, a new relationship. Lord, put me in that place and bless me there!” In Genesis chapter 32, we read about a place where God blessed His servant Jacob. At Penuel, the place where God wrestled with Jacob, defeated him, and put Jacob in his place.

In Genesis 32:29, we read, “and He blessed him there”, this was the blessing of being defeated by God. It was the blessing of the passing of the old life (the Jacob life), and the coming of a new life, (the Israel life). At that place, notice that God blessed him there…..at that particular place.

God blessed Jacob there, at the place of trial and testing.
God blessed Jacob there, at the place of intense pleading to God.
God blessed Jacob there, at the place of seeing the face of God.
God blessed Jacob there, at the place of physical weakness.

My brothers and sisters, in this season of your life’s journey does God have you in that kind of place right now? Don’t think for a moment that you have to go somewhere else to be blessed by God. You may be in the place of blessing right now, you just thought it would look different. Let this be your prayer: “Lord, You blessed Jacob there – You can bless me here. I surrender to You just as Jacob surrendered to You and received Your best blessing!”

In Christ our right now, right here Hope,

Pastor
