For those living without a fixed address, accessing opportunities can be a challenge. Most job applications require you to list a mailing address. So do applications for benefits, housing, voter registration, vehicle registration, and more. The Lokey Help Center provides temporary mail services for our residents and neighbors in transition. With all the rain this summer, flash flooding has become a common occurrence in many parts of Atlanta. Although in some communities (like ours) it’s more of a problem than in others.

For decades, heavy rains have often resulted in stormwater and raw sewage flowing through the neighborhood, and it's become even more publicized lately with the recent construction of a massive underground sewer vault many residents are referring to as "P**p Park."

We are excited to share an important evolution in our Families on the Move (FOTM) program!

Beginning this session, we’re transitioning from a three-times-per-week afterschool format to a twice-monthly Saturday Skill Builder workshop. This new format will ensure families with complicated schedules and transportation limitations are able to participate in the program. It will also allow us to provide free transportation for participants living in the 30315 zip code.

In 1972, Emmaus House played a strategic role in the desegregation of public schools by recruiting parents from the community to be monitors on school buses.

Emmaus House staff followed the school buses in vans, transporting the monitors back home in the morning, and returning them in the afternoon. This enabled several hundred Black youth to attend Northside schools, where they had access to more robust curriculums and learning resources.
