Literacy is about more than reading. Our Freedom School program helps young scholars connect with one another, their families, and their community.

You can help us build a more connected and inspired community by contributing to our $35,000 fundraising goal by June 30! One generous donor has already agreed to match all donations up to $30K, so don’t miss this opportunity to double your impact and foster connection through imagination, service, and literacy!

In 2015, Emmaus House partnered with Literacy Action to enroll parents in our Homework Relief Bootcamp. The program utilized a two-generation approach to fostering literacy, helping children AND parents achieve greater success in the classroom and in the workplace.

The Homework Relief Bootcamp is no longer active, although the spirit of multigenerational education lives on in programs like Families on the Move (FOTM) and Freedom School. To learn more about this and other milestones in Emmaus House's history, visit: emmaushouseatlanta.org/history

Exciting news: Our 2026 Impact Report is hot off the press and we can't wait to share it with you!

In it, you’ll find a letter from our staff, an overview of the vital programs and services we offer, and how they have impacted our community as well as a specific family new to Atlanta.

So please join us in celebrating the incredible impact our work has had this past year, and know that we are also celebrating you. Because none of it would be possible without your dedicated support. For those living without a fixed address, accessing opportunities can be a challenge. Most job applications require you to list a mailing address. So do applications for benefits, housing, voter registration, vehicle registration, and more. The Lokey Help Center provides temporary mail services for our residents and neighbors in transition. We recently opened enrollment for this year’s Freedom School program (which will take place June 15 - July 24) and were quickly overwhelmed by the response. Within days, we had received far more applications than we can accommodate. We’re currently exploring ways to expand the program’s capacity, but, as of this time, enrollment is currently closed.

To learn more about this vital program and potentially help us expand its capacity, please visit: emmaushouseatlanta.org/cdf-freedom-school
