Father's Day was founded in Spokane, Washington at the YMCA in 1910 by Sonora Smart Dodd, who was born in Arkansas. Its first celebration event was in the Spokane YMCA on June 19, 1910. Her father, the Civil War veteran William Jackson Smart, was a single parent who raised his six children there.
However, it was not until 1972, 58 years after President Woodrow Wilson made Mother's Day official–that a day honoring fathers became a nationwide holiday in the United States.

“What shall I render unto the LORD For all his benefits toward me? I will take the cup of salvation, And call upon the name of the LORD. I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people.” Psalm‬ ‭116‬:‭12‬-‭14‬ ‭KJV‬‬
“Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.”” Luke‬ ‭6‬:‭38‬ ‭NLT‬‬
The Boy with the loaves and fishes is at the center of the miracle of the feeding of the 5,000+. (John 6)
Some commentators suggest that the little boy in this story intended to sell his food to the crowd—otherwise, why would he pack so much? And yet, despite Andrew’s emphasis about how “small” his offering was, he willingly gave all he had without shame or hesitation. And through his generosity, thousands of people were fed!
“When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat? And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do. Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little. One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, saith unto him, There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many? And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would. When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost. Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten.” John‬ ‭6‬:‭5‬-‭13‬ ‭KJV‬‬
* The boy wanted to give. He abandoned his entrepreneurial plans.
* The boy gave all he had out of what he had (his means).
* The boy’s giving was relevant to what was needed.
* The boy left what he gave to Jesus and the disciples.
* God used what the boy gave to feed the 5,000+
* God used this biblical account to emphasize that we can’t beat God giving.
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,” Ephesians‬ ‭3‬:‭20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

As Summer breaks begin… I recognize the subject of children and child rearing is challenged even within the body of Christ, but God’s word is clear. Children are not to work as adults work. Children are not to try to be adults toward other children in their immediate family and beyond. Children are not to make decisions, including decisions about their own life. They don’t know what’s best. Think about who determined the very clothes of Joseph and the Prophet Samuel as children. Children definitely should not make gender assignment decisions. Children are to be trained/shaped. -PC
“When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.” 1 Corinthians‬ ‭13‬:‭11‬ ‭KJV‬‬
For the first part of their life a child has a two fold responsibility. (Obey and Honor)
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Ephesians 6:1 ESV
“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you. Exodus 20:12 ESV
Release ownership of your children to God —understanding God is responsible for the way in which they were designed and already knows the plan and purpose for their future.
For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition that I made to him. Therefore I have lent him to the Lord. As long as he lives, he is lent to the Lord.” And he worshiped the Lord there. 1 Samuel 1:27-28 ESV
When We Treasure Children, We show how much we Value God… and his love for children lifting them as a picture of the Kingdom.
But Jesus called them to him, saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Luke 18:16 ESV
Children insure the continuation of families and communities… from the very beginning in the context of the holy Institution of marriage... God gave instruction to mankind: And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth… Genesis 1:28 ESV
Children insure the continuation of churches… “And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” Ephesians‬ ‭6‬:‭4‬ ‭KJV
“And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Matthew‬ ‭16‬:‭18‬ ‭KJV‬‬
As adult men and women we are to be present and accountable in our children’s lives, live Godly lives before them. Don’t teach them to lie to cover up your wrongs. Please don’t misuse their social security number. Even if you are just starting in Christ, commit to being the first level of Biblical discipleship in their lives. Realize God has left it up to you to show them His way. Frederick Douglass was a Black American who escaped from slavery and became a leader of the abolitionist movement, Said “it is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.”
