64 AC30 Bass model is probably the least favorite version for guitar players and I can't imagine anyone playing bass through any AC30!! But it's easy enough to mod to either Treble or Normal specs and that's exactly what I did here and the results were fantastic. 1966 Marantz 8b didn't need too much in the way of caps. I took the minimalist approach on this one as per the owner's request. The original filter caps were still in spec and their quality tested higher than anything I had. So I just brought them up slow on the variac over a number of hours. I did replace the selenium rectifier and caps in the bias supply and 2 cathode bypass caps in the phase inverter. I wouldn't say this amp has a flat response, but it does have this warm liquid soundstage that is very engaging. Courtesy David Khan
