St. Thomas Anglican Church

Options this Sunday! On the 2nd Sunday of each month there are 3 service options available at St. Thomas Anglican Church! With so much going on in town (and in Tuscaloosa) and so many unknown weather variables, it's the perfect Sunday for options.

Our weekly morning services are at 9 AM & 11 AM. Then, we'll have our new monthly Evensong Service at 5 PM.

About Evensong - Evensong is a church service held near twilight in the Anglican tradition. For us this will be a slightly shorter service utilizing Evening Prayer from the Book of Common Prayer (2019) with a sermon followed by Holy Communion. It will be more contemplative and relaxed than our normal Sunday morning services. Note that St. Thomas Kids is not available during Evensong to allow our staff and volunteers to join us for worship.

Excited for tomorrow morning at St. Thomas Anglican Church!

Our Bishop, Archbishop Foley Beach will be with us for his annual visit. He will be preaching at both services and administering the sacramental rite of Confirmation. We'll also get to welcome some of our newest members formally together.

Join us for worship at 9 AM or 11 AM. We are located at 105 Timothy Pl Athens, GA (near Macon Hwy and the Loop). Learn more about our parish by visiting stacathens.org.

One of our core values at St. Thomas is "Welcome" focused on Gospel hospitality. As an Anglican Church, part of that means slowing down to teach about some of the distinctives of the Anglican Way and our liturgical worship service!

1) This coming Sunday is a special Instructed Service! Many at St. Thomas are new to the Anglican Way. We set aside a Sunday every 1-2 years for an Instructed Service to help walk everyone through how and why we do what we do in worship. This teaching occurs in lieu of the sermon and we will have an annotated special bulletin with more information.

2) Tomorrow night we kick off the Anglican Essentials class! We are spending 4 Tuesdays in September (starting tomorrow) exploring church history, sacramental theology, and how to use the Book of Common Prayer. We'll also look at the Confirmation Process for Adults.

Learn more about these opportunities and sign up for Anglican Essentials by visiting the St. Thomas website - https://www.stacathens.org/fall-2026.

Our dear friend Tim Smolko’s faith became sight late Friday evening, August 14th. We will host a Funeral Service for him this week at on Friday, August 21st, at 4:30 pm following a private burial. The service will be live streamed to our website (stacathens.org) and YouTube channel for those unable to join us. More plans are being made soon for a celebratory gathering in the coming weeks at the Portico.

Please continue to pray for Joanna, Ian, and Elanor giving thanks to God for the gift that Tim was to our church, the broader community, and to all who knew him.

Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love's sake. Amen.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to ALS United of Georgia or to the Go Fund Me set up to help defray costs and help the kids with college expenses.
