Christus Victor Lutheran Church and Student Center

Christus Victor Lutheran Church and Student Center Welcome! We are a Lutheran congregation (LCMS) serving students and non-students located in the midst of the University of Georgia campus.

As a student center and congregation, we at Christus Victor live in Christ's victory and we hope you can join us in that celebration and share it with our community and world. We worship each Sunday at 8:00 and 10:45 am with a Christian Education hour beginning at 9:30 am. We also offer many midweek activities including student fellowship, Bible studies and worship. We encourage you to look at our

various opportunities at our website christusvictor.net and invite you to join us as you are able. God's blessings to you!

We look around and realize a simple truth: This stuff doesn’t last. Whether we are talking about people in power, possessions, acclaim, etc., the reality is simple: this stuff doesn’t last. Psalm 146 reminds us of this truth and upholds another: The LORD does last! His faithfulness endures! And He cares for you.

God has paid the price for you by going to the cross for your sins. He has taken care of your needs and given you stability in the land of His grace. See that confidence anew this week and be freed from the pursuit of money and ‘success’ to truly live. Amos 8:4-7; 9:11-15.

Do you know any people needing the grace of God? Remember the Lord’s care for the lost; it is the same deep persistent care He has for you. Engage that lost sheep; find that lost coin. Share the Word of hope in Christ with someone today. Luke 15

Plants do better with nourishment… Be blessed with the nourishment you need, the nourishment God gives you in his Word; be a tree planted by the waters yielding its fruit in its season. Psalm 1

Whatever you are going through today, easy or difficult, good or bad, remember the confidence we hear in Hebrews 13:6: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”

In Luke 13:22-30, someone asks Jesus whether the number of people saved would be few. Jesus describes people coming from east and west, north and south to dine at the table in the kingdom of God. The number will not be few. The grace of God is great. The door is narrow, it is through Christ alone that the master knows us, but the grace of God is great. The question then for us is not: Is the number few? Rather it is: How can we live in and share the grace of God today?

A new academic year is an exciting time for the incoming first year students. It is a new beginning, a fresh start. It is also the beginning of a lengthy journey. At times the journey will seem long. We recognize this throughout our lives of faith. What a blessing it is to be reminded in Hebrews 11:1-12:3 that we have a great cloud of witnesses cheering us on. As we begin anew this week, let us be encouraged by the witnesses and let us be a witness to our fellow travelers as well.

Jesus prayed for the Church that we would be one even as He and the Father are one. Such unity is not artificial and in name only. Such unity is true and complete. It is a relationship that is healthy and concerned for the other. May God grant us a desire to know that joy and eyes to see it through the working of the Holy Spirit so that this unity would be a witness to Jesus for the world. (John 17:20-26)

Happy Ascension! Christ not only has been raised from the dead but has ascended into heaven and is seated on the throne. Yes, that means that he is not with us in the same way as he was with the disciples those days immediately after the resurrection. But he reigns for us and continues to come to us in the joy of the Body. May you celebrate today and rejoice in Christ’s victory!! (Luke 24:44-53)

Pray. We celebrate the resurrection throughout the Easter season (and yes, it is still the Easter season!). But in the midst of it, we also recognize that we live in the time of being scattered; life is not exactly easy for the people of God, struggles persist. And so we pray. Pray knowing the peace Christ has given; you have confidence in Christ’s victory. Pray in peace knowing that Christ has overcome the world. Pray knowing that the Father answers our prayers. (John 16:23-33)

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth.” We hear the words in Revelation 21 and we cannot help but smile. In the face of all the mess in this world, we know that God has acted. The tears will be wiped away and death will be no more. The mess is still the mess. But we are a people of hope. Share some real hope today; share the confidence of the resurrection and the implications Christ’s victory has on us.

This week finals finish up here at UGA and many celebrate graduation. There is much stress this week and many questions concerning what is coming next (whether on a test or after graduation). We know that reality in our lives. As we remember the Good Shepherd this week, we face all of those questions with confidence. We know the one who leads us. He is capable, faithful, and even lays down His life for us that we will be okay. (John 10)
