Big News & A Beautiful New Chapter!
After much prayer and a unanimous vote by our active members, Edwards Chapel Baptist Church has officially closed as a congregation—but God's work is far from over! 🙌
Our beloved Pastor Lewis answered God’s call and is now faithfully preaching and teaching in Guatemala, seeing souls saved and lives changed. His journey was just the beginning of something amazing.
At the same time, St. Thomas Church—a growing congregation of 250 + weekly—was praying for a new space to worship. God answered that prayer through us! ❤️ They will now be using our sanctuary and classrooms to continue spreading the love of Jesus Christ. Their services will start here this Summer.
But the story doesn’t end there...
We are thrilled to introduce our new mission outreach: City on the Hill Missions 🌟 — where we’ll continue serving our community through ministries like our Food Pantry, Clothes Closet, and more!
St. Thomas has warmly welcomed all former members and our community to join them in worship. God is still using this building, this land, and each one of us for His glory.
Let’s keep shining His light—together.
A note from St Thomas::::;;
St. Thomas Anglican Church has always been a church on the move! Throughout the years, we have gathered in a variety of places including homes, churches, and chapels. St. James Methodist, Redeemer Presbyterian, and Campus View Church of Christ have all opened their doors to us at different times. We have regularly used the Portico Study Center in Good Hope for occasional services and large fellowship events.
Our primary venue for Sunday morning services was the beautiful Day Chapel in the State Botanical Garden. We used the Day Chapel for years until we outgrew it. In 2024 we transitioned to the Foundry Building behind the Classic Center. We dubbed this our “minivan phase” since it was less attractive, but had lots more seating and could get us where we needed to go!
During our short history, a large part of our time and energy have been spent on the detailed planning and ex*****on of weekly set up, break down, and volunteer management that is essential for being a mobile church. We have never had a place we could truly call home. Nonetheless, the Lord has seen fit to grow our congregation and we have seen many people come to faith through what God has done at St. Thomas.
We are so excited and grateful for this next phase of ministry and can’t wait to finally have a place to call home!
St. Thomas Anglican is a young Anglican church in the Athens, GA area under the leadership of Fr. Daniel Adkinson.
