We are so proud of you. Continue to be the difference in our classrooms and in our community.
Continuing our 2026-27 school-level Teacher/Support Professional of the Year spotlights with a look at the Fowler Drive Elementary School Teacher of the Year, Deidra Bulger!
Ms. Bulger has proudly worked with CCSD for 20 years, including 12 years at Fowler Drive, starting as a paraprofessional and later becoming a kindergarten teacher. She says each role has helped her grow and strengthened her commitment to serving children and families.
“My mother, my family, Dr. Anissa Johnson, and many others influenced my decision to pursue a career in education,” says Ms. Bulger.” “They recognized my potential, encouraged me, and helped me believe that I could make a meaningful difference in the lives of children.
“My favorite part of working at Fowler Drive is building relationships with my students and watching them grow. Kindergarten is a year filled with important milestones, and I love seeing students gain confidence, develop new skills, and become excited about learning. I also enjoy working with supportive colleagues and being part of a school community that genuinely cares about its students and families.”
A fun fact about Ms. Bulger is she grew up in New York City but spent every summer in Athens.
“Because of this, I experienced the best of both worlds, the excitement and diversity of city life and the warmth and close-knit community of Southern life,” she says. “Both places shaped my personality, values, and ability to connect with people from many different backgrounds.”
Ms. Bulger earned a bachelor’s degree in Educational Studies from Grand Canyon University and a master’s degree in Elementary Education from Piedmont University. She also earned her ESOL endorsement and is currently pursuing her specialist degree at the University of West Georgia.
Outside of school, she is a devoted mentor with SheSPEAKS Academy, a mentoring program that empowers young girls ages 12-18 to find their voices, lead boldly, and embrace their worth.
“I chose to become a mentor because I want to pour into young girls and make a lasting difference in their lives, just as someone once poured into me,” she says. “I believe every girl deserves encouragement, guidance, and someone who genuinely believes in her potential.”
Ms. Bulger is also a proud member of Timothy Baptist Church, where she faithfully serves as a deaconess and choir member.
“I am deeply honored to represent Fowler Drive Elementary School as its 2026–2027 Teacher of the Year,” she says. “After 20 years in education, I remain passionate about learning, growing, advocating for students, and creating a joyful and welcoming classroom where every child feels valued and capable of success.”
