True wisdom comes from above.

James 3:13-18 reminds us that wisdom isn't simply measured by what we know, but by how we live. Godly wisdom produces humility, purity, peace, gentleness, and a life that reflects Christ.

As we seek His wisdom rather than the wisdom of the world, our words, choices, and relationships can become a reflection of Him.

“The wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit…”
—James 3:17

Prayer doesn’t have to be impressive.
Jesus teaches us that prayer is not a performance to master, but a relationship to enjoy.

Join us this Sunday as we look at Matthew 6:5–15 and discover a simple framework for prayer that helps us focus less on saying the right words and more on being with the Father.

What a privilege to gather around to witness a father and his three sons be baptized! It was a beautiful picture of faith being lived out together as a family.

There is something very special about watching a father lead his sons in following Christ—and even more special to be there to celebrate this moment with them.

Dogwood Church is grateful to walk alongside this family, to pray with them, encourage them, and cheer them on as they grow in their relationship with Jesus. Baptism is a public declaration of faith and a beautiful reminder that God is at work in hearts and families.

What a joy to witness these four take this step of obedience together! We celebrate with you and look forward to seeing all that God has in store. 🙏

What Comes Out of Your Mouth? — Part 2
James 3:7–12

Our words have the power to lift people up or tear them down. James reminds us that our tongues cannot be tamed by human effort alone—we need God’s help.

Our mouths should be a spring of refreshment, speaking words of encouragement, truth, love, and hope. Pastor Andy challenged us to remember that our community needs to hear words that point them to Christ.

Our mission at Dogwood Church is to speak God’s Word and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. May the words that come from our mouths reflect the love of Christ and produce fruit that honors Him.

“Love your enemies” may be one of Jesus’ most familiar commands—and one of the easiest to explain away.

Loving an enemy does not mean approving evil, immediately restoring trust, or allowing someone to continue causing harm. It does mean refusing to answer hostility with hatred and learning to pray for those who oppose us.

Join us for Adult Bible Study this Sunday at 9:30 a.m. as we study Matthew 5:43–48 and consider how loving our enemies reflects the supernatural love of our heavenly Father. We may even learn to pray for difficult people without simply asking God to straighten them out like a bent fence post.

Sunday's message. 8/23/2026
In James 3:1–6, James reminds us that something small can have an enormous impact.

He gives us the picture of a bit in a horse’s mouth. A tiny bit can guide the direction of a powerful horse. In the same way, our small tongue can influence the direction of our lives and the lives of those around us.

Then James gives us another picture: a small fire can set a great forest ablaze. 🔥

We’ve all seen how quickly a fire can spread. And our words can spread just as quickly—through a family, a friendship, a workplace, or a church. One careless comment, harsh word, or piece of gossip can go much farther than we ever intended.

But the good news is that our words can spread something good, too. Our tongues can encourage instead of discourage, build up instead of tear down, bring peace instead of division, and point people toward Jesus.

Pastor Andy challenged us to recognize just how much power we have in something so small. Lord, help us use the gift of our words wisely. May what comes from our mouths bring life to those who hear it.

Speaker: Andy Calcote. James 3:1-6.

What does it really mean to love your neighbor?

Jesus didn’t leave that as a vague idea. He connected wholehearted love for God with costly, practical love for the people He places in front of us — including the ones we might rather avoid.

This Sunday we’ll look at two familiar passages and ask a harder question: Who is God calling me to love in a way that actually costs me something?
