We work with our neighbors against racism, for LGBTQ and racial equity, to end systemic homelessness, to welcome immigrants, and to show up for justice. Through the arts, attention to care for the Earth, and a spirit of collaboration with so many who are doing tireless work in the community, we support, equip, and provide space for those making positive change in the world. We know that the church
has done a lot of harm, even with good intentions, over the centuries. Christianity has come to be seen as exclusive, judgmental, racist, self-serving and increasingly irrelevant. "Church" is thought of as a building where people go (or walk past) on a Sunday morning. Still, people are looking for something beyond themselves, for a community that cares and is working for a better world. Astoria First Presbyterian sold our buildings to make way for affordable senior housing and we're seeking to create a seamless way of being church, getting back to the way that Jesus taught--a way of love and justice that comes from deeply ancient wisdom with timeless relevance. We believe you can make a difference. Let's make a difference together.
