Good Shepherd United Methodist Church

Good Shepherd United Methodist Church Good Shepherd United Methodist Church is a community congregation living out God's call in our lives together. We share our facility w/UMC Korean Church.

Our new Pastor, Rev. Sara Giron-Ortiz, began leading our congregation in September 2013. Our vision statement:
We are called to be the kingdom of God here and now. Deliberately creating safe space, we give our best to welcome and to embrace God's Spirit and God's creation in love. We resist the hungers, angers, loneliness, and tiring barriers that would divide us. We are a community in worship, i

n Bible study, in prayer, and in celebration. Jesus shows us, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, how to listen deeply and respond sincerely to Him, and to others, as we share the Gospel in Spirit, in truth and in fun. We support each other and our neighbors in healing, in recovery, and in engaging every opportunity to be what God ordains. Acknowledging everyone's sacred value and confessing that we need what everyone has to offer, we explore and we interact with people from other cultures. God is telling us to get out of our way, to grow closer to Him and to share His Word. Then, we will believe, forgive, and obey Him, as we engage the larger world.

Juneteenth National Independence Day, which celebrates the end of slavery in the United States, was yesterday. FYI: The name is combination of the words June and nineteenth.

Just last year, Juneteenth became a federal holiday, celebrated today in 24 states and the District of Columbia as a public holiday. For those still trying to sort out the meaning of the day and/or help others learn, United Methodist Communications created a downloadable video lesson: https://bit.ly/3QyZtnm
