In light of COVID19 and recent restrictions for social distancing, we are suspending all services until April 12th, Easter Sunday, at which time we will reevaluate. God bless.

The Astoria Church of Christ regretfully must cancel our annual Choral Celebration of Easter on Saturday, April 18th at 3:00 pm.

In light of COVID19 and recent social restrictions the only prudent action in the midst of this worldwide pandemic is for the church to cancel this event.

We look forward to celebrating next year and hope we see you then.

The American day of Thanksgiving has an interesting history. It began
in 1621 when the Pilgrims celebrated a three day feast with their Indian
neighbors, giving thanks to God, who in his providential care had blessed
them with food, shelter and survival in their new land.
In 1789 George Washington proclaimed it a day of Thanksgiving
following the creation of America's new constitution.
Abraham Lincoln proclaimed it a special day of gratitude and praise
following the Union victory at Gettysburg.
Franklin Roosevelt issued a proclamation in 1939, changing the date
from the fourth Thursday of November to the third Thursday. That was
during the great depression and he hoped to stimulate the economy by
adding more shopping days between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
However, many refused to change, so America had two Thanksgiving
Days for a time. Often the new one was called "Franksgiving" and the
traditional one "Thanksgiving."
Congress intervened in 1941 by officially designating the 4th
Thursday of November as a federal holiday.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving Day, but remember God deserves our thanks
each and every day. He has been very generous in blessing us.
"Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever."
(Psalm 107:1)
