“As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”
1 Peter 4:10
While everyone in our church serves and plays a vital role in the life of Summum Christian Church, yesterday we had the honor of recognizing two members who have contributed decades of faithful service to our church and to all who have called it home. Gene and Connie Lockard were presented with the very first Summum Christian Church Service Award.
The Summum Christian Church Service Award was created to honor church members who faithfully serve both the church and the community, using their God-given gifts to bless others and reflect Christ’s love.
For over six decades, Gene and Connie served by teaching, cooking, leading, organizing, and loving generations of local families. Connie faithfully played the piano and organ for 60 years and organized 99 funeral meals during her time here. She also served on the church board as a deaconess and secretary. Gene taught Sunday School for 62 years, complete with Christmas parties and individual birthday celebrations for generations of children, and also served on the church board as both an elder and a deacon. Together, Gene and Connie were devoted supporters of LaMoine Christian Service Camp encouraging children to attend, participating in camp meetings, and delivering hundreds of boxes of cereal over the years.
While the years of service alone are remarkable and worthy of celebration, it is their genuine love for the people within Summum Christian Church and throughout the surrounding communities that has made the greatest impact. Many generations know Jesus because of Gene and Connie Lockard.
On behalf of Summum Christian Church and everyone whose life you have touched, thank you for loving Jesus and for loving and serving us so faithfully!
