"We are willing to take the necessary risks to be a healing, compassionate presence in our violent world, especially with women, children, and those who have no voice."

Please join us as we pray for Sr. Marie Catherine Spellman, OSF, 96, who died in Assisi House on June 7, 2026. She had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 70 years. Born Rita Helen in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Irish immigrants, a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, and a graduate of the now-closed Holy Trinity High School in Roxbury. She entered the congregation in 1953 and professed first vows in 1956. She earned a B.S. in Education from Villanova University, and ministered both as an educator and in healthcare, dedicating roughly half of her years to each.

May she now enjoy the fullness of life in God’s eternal embrace.

Please join us as we pray for Sr. Florence Petsch, 94, who died in Assisi House on June 4, 2026. She had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 44 years.

Born in Fort Washakie, Wyoming, she graduated from Fremont County Vocational High School and attended Central Wyoming College. She was a Shoshone Tribal member from the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming. After being married and raising a family, she was widowed at a young age. Following a period of discernment, she pursued her call to religious life, entering the congregation in 1979 at the age of 48 and professing her first vows in 1982. She ministered primarily in pastoral care.

May she now rest in the love she so generously shared with others.

Today, we gathered to participate in Wear Orange Weekend, joining communities across the country in honoring victims and survivors of gun violence and advocating for a more peaceful future.

Following a prayer service, we lined the road in public witness, calling for an end to gun violence. Together, we raised our voices in prayer, solidarity, and hope for a world where every person can live free from the fear of violence.

Violence in any house of worship wounds the entire human family.

In recent years, we have seen tragic shootings in churches, synagogues, mosques, and other sacred spaces meant for prayer, peace, and community.

We continue to pray for a world that chooses peace over violence, understanding over division, and love over hate.

Today, we hold in prayer the Muslim community in San Diego following the deadly violence at the Islamic Center of San Diego. We pray for all who were killed, injured, and traumatized, and for their loved ones. 🕊

Move over, Earth Day … we’ve got a whole week! 🌎

Tomorrow begins Laudato Si' Week, a global Catholic movement inspired by Pope Francis and the call to care for our common home.

Small actions matter … Shop local, especially for food. Reduce single-use waste by using reusable cups, plates, and water bottles. Plant a vegetable or pollinator garden. Support clean air and water in your community.

Or join a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program like our own Red Hill Farm in Aston, Pennsylvania, where fresh, locally grown produce nourishes both people and the planet while supporting sustainable farming practices right here in our community.

Caring for creation is not about doing everything perfectly — it’s about choosing, each day, to love and protect the beautiful world we share.

As we celebrate the Ascension of the Lord today, we remember that Christ’s presence did not leave the world — it lives on through our acts of love, mercy, and service.

The Ascension is both a promise and a calling: to keep our hearts rooted in heaven while our hands remain busy caring for one another here on Earth.

May we, like St. Francis, continue to bring peace where there is division, hope where there is suffering, and joy wherever God sends us.

The Gospel reminds us to go forward in faith and continue the mission entrusted to us.

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the beautiful mothers! 🩷

Today, we give thanks for all mothers — those who gave us life, those who nurtured us in faith and love, and those whose quiet strength continues to shape our lives each day.

We also honor our Blessed Mother, Mary, mother of Jesus, with this simple display prepared in her honor — a gentle reminder of her loving presence and faithful example.

May all mothers feel deeply loved and appreciated today, and may Mary continue to guide us in faith, compassion, and peace.
