Sure. You can "white knuckle" your way through a lot of things. Your own willpower will get you further than people expect. But it does not heal anything. It holds the line.

That's the difference. It's trying harder versus actually being made new.

Too often we try to manage our worst habits instead of just dealing with them. Manage the temper. Manage the fear. Manage the same old patterns year after year. Jesus doesn't offer better management. He offers to remake what's underneath it.
