While in Barahona, two homes were worked on. The houses are very small, usually 2-3 rooms, about 16x20. The outside of the homes are made with whatever materials are available. Scraps of wood, pieces of metal siding, plastic and paper. Often there are three generations living in the home. Most do not have running water and a few may have a couple dangerously wired outlets. The siding is replaced and new electric wiring is installed. The one lady was 82 years old and lost her voice singing praises! “All my life you have been faithful. All my life you have been so, so good. With every breath that I am able, I going to sing, of the goodness of God.” In Spanish, of course, but it was recognized right away. We also use local carpenters since they know the “Dominican Way” to build.
