Verse of the Day
“Then He said to the disciples, ‘It is impossible that no offenses should come, but woe to him through whom they do come!’ NKJV
Luke 17:1AND [Jesus] said to His disciples, Temptations (snares, traps set to entice to sin) are sure to come, but woe to him by or through whom they come! Luke 17:1 AMPC
(The Trap Is Set)
There is so much the devil uses to get Christians off track and away from the purpose God has for them. The enemy sets minefields along the path we are called to walk, hoping to destroy our focus and hinder our assignment. This is why we must seek God’s will daily and stay sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus warned that offenses will surely come. Matthew 24:10–12 prophesies that in the last days many will become offended, betray one another, and their love will grow cold. Offense is one of the enemy’s most effective traps.
We can be walking strong in our Christian life, feeling encouraged and focused, and suddenly find ourselves caught in something that hinders us. Instead of seeking God for help to forgive, we fix our eyes on how we were wronged. Offense takes root, and we begin to defend ourselves instead of advancing the Gospel.
The energy once used to further the Kingdom becomes energy used to justify our hurt. Those who once stood with us in ministry become divided—some “on our side,” others “against us.” Our prayer life becomes hindered. Our study of God’s Word becomes clouded by our desire to prove our point. Then bitterness springs up, and the preaching of the cross is no longer the driving force of our life—fairness and self‑defense take its place.
But God has called us to something higher. Ephesians 4:32 reminds us to forgive one another just as God forgave us for Christ’s sake. Jesus also said to agree with your adversary quickly. We must shed offense quickly and discern the traps of the enemy.
Ask yourself: Is the preaching of the Gospel still the main thing that drives my life? For every Christian, that should be our greatest passion and purpose.
Heavenly Father, help me to recognize the traps the enemy sets before me. Guard my heart from offense, bitterness, and distraction. Keep my spirit sensitive to Your leading, and let the preaching of the Gospel remain the driving force of my life. Strengthen me to forgive quickly, walk in love, and stay focused on the purpose You have given me. In Jesus name. Amen.
