CHURCH HISTORY
Crum Chapel Baptist church was built in 1913-1914 on land donated by James Crum. The ladies of the church, met at sewing circles, held in their homes to make and sell aprons, bonnets and quilts to raise money for the building of the church. It had only three side windows and the chapel was used for Sunday school classes as well as bringing the message. There were five Sunday school
classes that each take a section of the chapel for their class. Remodeling was done some time later adding two more side windows and a finished basement with two Sunday school rooms located there. The back addition brought an additional 2 more classrooms, the pastor’s office, and a downstairs bathroom with the stairs being moved to the front of the church. Approximately 10 –14 years there was an upstairs bathroom that allowed made it easier for the elderly and the disabled. Cassity Annex, was built by church members along with Jake Miller’s carpentry class. Recent remodeling have included an extension on the front porch, a much larger deck on the annex and a larger parking lot to the left of the church. When the church first opened, they belonged to the United Baptist Association. The first pastor was thought to be Josh Damron. The church later broke away from that association. Most of the pastors have been Freewill Baptist ministers with our current pastor being Bill Smith. There has been many lively meeting back then and now with revivals lasting four to six weeks seeing hundreds saved. The church has been blessed with many talented singers and musicians, which still stands true today. We have had our share of hard times, gone without pastors and even at one time, the doors were closed and locked, but through the hard work and dedication of the people who belonged here, the church could not be kept down for very long. Many of the descendants from the early days still attend the church today.
