Exhausted Mom and Baby Fall Asleep on CEO’s Shoulder — What Happens When She Wakes Up Leaves Her Speechless.
On a red-eye flight from LA to Chicago, Rachel Martinez struggled to soothe her crying baby, Sophia. Exhausted from double shifts and drained of savings, she faced judgmental looks and a flight attendant’s stern request:
“Ma’am, other passengers are trying to sleep. Can you please quiet the baby?”
“I’m trying,” Rachel whispered, near tears.
Just as panic overwhelmed her, a calm voice beside her offered, “Would you mind if I gave it a try?”
The man—well-dressed, kind-eyed—took Sophia gently. Within seconds, the baby calmed.
“I don’t know how you did that,” Rachel said.
“Just practice,” he smiled. “And maybe the suit helps.”
The tension in the cabin eased.
“I’m Rachel,” she said. “And that’s Sophia.”
“James,” he replied.
When she reached for her daughter, he urged, “Rest. I’ve got her.”
Rachel leaned back, falling asleep on his shoulder. She didn’t know he was James Whitmore, CEO of a major foundation.
When she woke up, startled, she gasped, “Oh no—I’m so sorry!”
He smiled, still holding Sophia: “No need to apologize....

We joined with other churches across the East Ohio Conference to donate cleaning supplies and personal dignity kits to the Midwest Mission . The College of Wooster donated over 180 beds to the mission as well!
