Today, Alexander Chapel United Methodist Church celebrated Pentecost Sunday — the birth of the Church! During worship we wore “tongues of flame” as a joyful reminder of the Holy Spirit descending upon the people in Acts 2:1–21. We celebrated how God’s Spirit continues to move among ordinary people, bringing courage, understanding, and new life into the world. Happy Birthday, Church! https://youtu.be/Rv3d9fGtDns

I am excited to share that Reverend Jimmy Galloway will begin serving as the minister of Alexander Chapel UMC in Asheville, NC, beginning July 6, 2026. Reverend Galloway has previously served as the Minister of Alexander and thus is no stranger to this wonderful church family. Jimmy has been with helped me in my first year at ACUMC - given his leadership status with the Western NC Conference of the UMC. I am glad he is coming back home to ACUMC! As members of AC have already shared with me, “He’s a good fella!”

2026 Tenebrae Service at Alexander Chapel UMC https://youtu.be/-rfL0bXE-wY

Celebration of Tenebrae, Friday, April 3, 2026

Alexander Chapel United Methodist Church (UMC), Christ UMC, Clark’s Chapel UMC, and Salem UMC welcome you to this collaborative celebration of Tenebrae. Tenebrae, meaning “darkness” or “shadows,” is a solemn service observed during Holy Week that reflects on the suffering and death of Jesus Christ. Through song, scripture readings, and the gradual extinguishing of candles, the service moves us from light into darkness, symbolizing the events leading to the cross. Tenebrae service invites us into quiet reflection and remembrance, preparing our hearts to more fully experience the hope and joy of Easter.

Prelude, Steve Hawkins
Invocation & Greeting, Phillip Gibson, Pastor of Alexander Chapel United Methodist Church
Prayer in Unison, Sheri King

Almighty God, your Son Jesus Christ was lifted high upon the cross so that He might draw the whole world to Himself. Grant that we, who glory in this death for our salvation, may also glory in His call to take up our cross and follow Him; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
