"I Will Always Love You" by Dolly Parton, arranged by Kevin Bryant

Kevin treated us to his arrangement of Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" for the offertory this morning. While it may seem unusual to hear a secular song as an offertory, the example of Christ-like love set by Dolly Parton makes this song very fitting for a church like Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church (Asheville, NC). We strive to be a place of welcome, love, acceptance, and generosity--all qualities that Dolly exuded!

Just a minor change to the lyrics is so fitting for our dear little church:

"We hope life treats you kind
And we hope that you have all
That you ever dreamed of.
And we wish you joy
And happiness.
But above all of this,
We wish you love
And we will always love you."

Seeing these young acolytes help each other with the lighting of the candles reminds us that sometimes we all can benefit from a steadying hand to guide us, a sense of humor when things don't go quite the way we planned, and persistence to light our way.
