God gives Ezekiel a vision. Water trickles from the threshold of the temple. The water grows, and grows, and keeps growing—until it becomes a great river—a river that cannot be crossed, deep enough to swim. Wherever this river goes, things are not the same—stagnant places become fresh, and dead places come to life. There’s something in the water.

Ezekiel’s vision is a vision about what it means to be God’s people.

When we join the church, we make serious commitments to “faithfully participate in the ministries of the church with our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service and our witness.” Join us in worship as we explore the meaning of this river that defines who we are and that transforms the world into something new.

🔦 Conference Spotlight on our wonderful Rev. Jaidymar Smith in celebration of Hispanic / Latino Heritage Month! We are so blessed with amazing clergy here at First UMC. Proud to know you Pastor Jaidy! And grateful to partner in ministry with La Luz de Cristo and Pastor Chris 🙏

Did you know the Rev. Jaidymar Alicea Smith helps lead a bilingual Fresh Expression, Creciendo Juntas, that has gathered women and girls from age five to one hundred across cultures and languages? 🌎

Born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, Pastor Jaidymar now serves as Assistant Pastor at First UMC, Asheboro, and is in her final year at Duke Divinity School. She also serves alongside her husband, the Rev. Chris Smith, at La Luz de Cristo, a bilingual Hispanic congregation in Asheboro.

"We have learned that language is a barrier we put on ourselves and that love breaks down every barrier and obstacle," she says of Creciendo Juntas. "Every act of love, no matter how small it may seem, impacts lives in ways we could never imagine." ❤️
