It is with great sadness that we announce our last Sunday service for June 26th, 2022 at Giles Chapel United Methodist Church. We are set to close our doors on June 30th, 2022. Although, we do still have a glimmer of hope this would not happen as of now, these are our predicted dates.
Next year Giles Chapel would be 190 years old. That is a huge accomplishment for any church to have been around for so many years. Giving back to the community, fellowship and helping bring people to know our Lord and Savior. So many families and individuals have passed through these halls and sat in the pews. Endless numbers of memories that have been made here, from weddings, Christmas celebrations, Easter celebrations, Baptism ceremonies, and watching people kneel down in front of the altar giving all their concerns and worries to God. The love felt in the church is such a blessing and knowing when you walked into this church, you knew you would laugh, cry and be comforted by those around you. Seeing people literally give their life to Christ after hearing a sermon and the Holy Spirit moving them. It's a feeling of home. A feeling like no other. Children learning to love the Lord and keeping the knowledge with them and life lessons through their life and our church family impacting little lives with the word of the Lord. It's absolutely amazing. We used to be known as "the singing church" and our chimes could be heard over the hills near this part of town, Gold Hill Road and Giles Chapel.
From 1833 to 2022. We have been through the Civil War all the way up to present day. And we have held strong. The Lord has kept us in his stronghold. And, as time rolls on we understand things change with it.
We openly invite every single person, family who has ever been to Giles Chapel, grew up in our church, had anything to do with our church at all, even watching us online during Covid to come out. Even if you had never been to our church before, we welcome all people to come out and celebrate, remember and fellowship with one another on June 26th, 2022. Our service will start at 11:15am. Following our service, in our fellowship hall ( Trogdon Hall) we will have lunch, so bring out your best dish to share and take a moment to look at all the memorable things that will be set up in our fellowship hall as a remembrance of this wonderful place so many people call home now and forever, our home church.
May God continue to bless you and keep you and let us remember that God has a plan for everything even if we do not know what that might be. It is heartbreaking for so many but, God mends our brokenness and in him we are made whole once again.
God bless you all and we hope to see everyone June 26th, 2022 at 11:15AM.
