Devotional for today
1 Corinthians 11:1 Be ye followers of me, even as I am of Christ.
I was mowing the grass one afternoon when I saw my son pushing his bubble making lawn mower across the yard where I had just been cutting grass earlier. He of course couldn't cut grass like I did because his lawn mower blew bubbles and didn't have a real blade on it. He was imitating my actions. He pretended to cut the grass I already cut because that was what Dad was doing.
Paul was talking about imitation. Paul wanted the Corinthians to imitate his actions. Not just any actions but the actions that demonstrated his imitation of Christ. New Christians need a mentor. They need someone who is following Christ to show them how that is lived out. It may be in a number of actions like prayer, bible reading, church attendance, singing, witnessing, holy living, service, love of others, etc. They should carefully watch and follow this person in light of the Word of God, always making sure that they line up with each other.
New believers need to follow someone who can lead them in the right ways. Paul was confident he was someone who they could follow. We should strive to make sure we are good examples to those around us. Not just examples in word but in deed and according to God's Word. Are you a good example of a Christian that someone could follow? Do you have good examples in your life to follow as they follow Christ?
