On the Day of Pentecost we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit descending in a mighty rush of wind and flame to inspire the church’s proclamation of Christ’s rising and to empower its mission and ministry to the world. The color for this Sunday is red. Red symbolizes the “tongues of fire” that rested upon those believers who were praying in the upper room. God’s Spirit moved them to speak in all languages so all people could hear, understand and receive the good news of the gospel. In celebration of this joyful day in the life of the church, everyone is invited to wear red (or orange, or gold) to worship this Sunday.

“We trust in God the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of life.”— A Brief Statement of Faith
