Today I received word that Abel Miraflor has arrived in heaven. Forty plus years ago, while attending Christian Life College in Stockton, CA, I was invited to preach at a small church near Sacramento. That was the day, I met Abel. A few years later after Marion and I were married, Abel and Judy moved to Stockton and they became our friends. Long before there were Facebook friends, Abel loved Marion and me. On the many occasions that we needed to fly out of San Francisco, he would arrive at our home early on his way to his Job in the Bay Area, and drove us to the airport. When I showed him the house that I was thinking of buying, he encouraged me to purchase it and he helped us to fix it up. We offered to pay him but he refused. Once at about 2 am in the morning, one of the smoke alarms malfunction. I could not get it to stop ringing, and so I called Abel. He was at our house in about a minute. He climbed up the ladder, cut the wire and walked out without saying a word. Later, he said that he was still asleep. We laughed. Shortly after we came to Virginia, Abel and Judy sent their precious daughter Brandy along with Jennifer Walmer to work in our church plant for a year. Before he died, he called and asked us to pray for a miracle. Marion and I prayed with him. He never stopped believing that God was a healer. I am comforted that when he arrived in heaven, he was welcomed by my beautiful Marion, Jennifer’s dad, John Larson and so many more who are waiting for us. See you soon Abel!
