This week I invited someone to our Veterans Day service. Her dad, a veteran and former paramedic, didn’t want to come, and she decided not to either. I’ll admit, I was disappointed. But later, I realized something valuable.

Not everyone who has served whether in the military or as a first responder feels comfortable being celebrated. Many have witnessed deep loss, pain, or trauma. So, when they hear “thank you for your service,” it can stir up complex emotions gratitude mixed with grief.
And that’s okay. Their feelings are real, and we honor them by understanding that.
It reminded me that just like Mother’s Day or Father’s Day can be joyful for some and hard for others, Veterans Day can be the same way. The church’s role is to hold space for both, the celebration and the sorrow, the gratitude and the grief.

Romans 12:15 reminds us: “Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.” That’s what true Christian community looks like walking beside people in every part of their story.
So, as we honor our veterans and first responders, let’s also honor their different experiences and thank God for the grace that meets each heart right where it is.

Prayer:
Lord, help us to be people of compassion — to celebrate with joy, comfort with gentleness, and love with understanding. Amen.

As Jesus went from Gailee to Jerusalem the crisis became hotter! So put on your “I believe Jesus.” It’s going to get hotter. Get anchored in Jesus!

Love is not effortless—it stretches us, costs us, and sometimes wears us out. Yet Scripture calls it a “labor of love” because it is holy work that reflects the very heart of God. When we choose to love through sacrifice, endurance, and service, we mirror the love Christ poured out for us. Our labor may go unnoticed by people, but God never forgets it (Hebrews 6:10).

Lord, I yield today to your affection and affirmation. Thank you for making me in your likeness. Help me to walk tall today, entering every room as nothing less than a child of God. Please continue to make me like you, wherever sin has distorted my family likeness, heal me, fill me, shape me, make me more like you.

🌞 It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood… and that includes you. You are not here by accident—you carry strength that someone else only dreams of, and kindness that can brighten the darkest day.

If today feels heavy, remember: you’ve survived every tough moment so far. That makes you incredibly resilient. If today feels light, share that joy—it might be exactly what someone else needs to keep going.

Keep showing up. Keep being you. The world needs your voice, your heart, and your hope. 💛
