Ladies out there…you gotta love Dolly!

Ladies out there…you gotta love Dolly!

I lost my partner of 60 years in March.

Being famous doesn’t make the pain hurt any less.

I lost my husband Carl in March, after sixty years together. People see me smiling on stage, in rhinestones and big hair, but behind all the glitter is a broken heart. Carl was never one for the spotlight—he stayed home, ran his businesses, and kept me grounded. That quiet man was my greatest supporter, my best friend, and the love of my life.

We met at the Wishy Washy laundromat in Nashville. I was eighteen, and he said something that made me laugh. I knew right then he was different. For six decades, he let me chase my dreams while never asking me to be anyone but myself. He was always in my corner, even from behind the scenes.

Now the house is quieter. The mornings feel longer. I still reach for him sometimes. But I believe love like ours doesn’t end. It changes form.

I’ll keep singing, because that’s what he would want. But a piece of my heart is with him, and always will be.🥹

Discover the Avent Cabin! 🎨

Originally built in 1845, this cabin was most recently owned by Frank and Mayna Avent and is now maintained by the Smokies as a historic home site.

Mayna Avent is famously known for having used this cabin as her art studio, where she became a nationally renowned artist recognized for her oil and watercolor paintings. Her artwork has even been exhibited in prestigious galleries, including the Smithsonian.

To find the Avent Cabin, hike the Jake's Creek Trail. About 3/4 of a mile in, you will encounter an unmarked staircase on the right, shortly after the junction with the Meigs Mountain Trail. Descend the staircase to cross a foot log bridge, followed by a short ascent to the cabin. The total mileage for this hike is approximately 2.4 miles roundtrip, with an elevation gain of about 500 feet.
