Amazing Love Sanctuary

Amazing Love Sanctuary A Progressive Christian Church, founded by Rev. Samuel Lopez. A Church that truly welcomes ALL People. All are welcome, honored, loved, and served at our table.

Its mission is demonstrating Love, Acceptance, Forgiveness, and Grace. The church champions social justice and radical inclusivity. Founded by Pastor Samuel Lopez this congregation affirms and promotes the full participation of persons in our activities and endeavors, including membership, programming, and the calling of clergy without regard to gender, affectional or sexual orientation, race, eth

nicity, nationality, religion, physical or mental challenge or economic circumstance. We are entirely, unequivocally, and unapologetically progressive and inclusive. Our Mission is to live in love, acceptance, forgiveness, and compassion for all. Our Pastor, Rev. Samuel Lopez, is Ordained Ministers with the Progressive Christian Alliance. As a church, we are affiliated with and stand by the Mission Statement of the Progressive Christian Alliance:

"The Progressive Christian Alliance maintains a focus on social justice. We believe that the gospel of Christ calls us to minister to the last, the lost, the least, and the left-out of society. We respect theological diversity. Faith is not about concrete answers, religious absolutes, creeds, or dogma. Faith is about the search for understanding, the raising of important questions, the open honesty of having doubt, and the realization that no one has it all completely right nor does any human hold all the answers. We seek to follow the advice found in 1 Thessalonians 5:21, which is to “seek truth out in all things and hold firmly onto that which is good.” Religious absolutes of dogma, legalism, and strict doctrine become stumbling blocks and “litmus tests” for who is “in” and who is “out” of the circle of God’s grace. These false tests that Jesus never required get in the way of truly following Jesus and his teachings. We affirm the dignity of all of God’s children and invite them to participate fully in the life of the church."

THE RED LETTER WORDS OF JESUS…

Look at how each Gospel writer describes the good soil:

Matthew 13:23 But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”

Mark 4:20 But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.”

Luke 8:15 But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.

Matthew emphasizes understanding. Mark emphasizes acceptance. Luke adds two details the others don't—a noble and good heart, and patience.

~Hide us under the shadow of your wing : and deliver us from fear.

~Scripture~
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High : abides under the shadow of the Almighty.
He shall say to the LORD, “You are my refuge and my stronghold : my God in whom I put my trust.”
He shall deliver you from the snare of the hunter : and from the deadly pestilence.
He shall cover you with his pinions, and you shall find refuge under his wings : his faithfulness shall be a shield and buckler.
Hide us under the shadow of your wing : and deliver us from fear.
~Psalm 91:1-4

Hide us under the shadow of your wing : and deliver us from fear.

This story is recorded in the Acts of Eusebius: “When the proconsul was present in Pergamum, Carpus and Papylus, joyful martyrs of Christ, were brought to him. The proconsul sat down and asked, ‘What is your name?’ The one who was questioned answered, ‘My first and chosen name is Christian. But if you are asking for my name in the world, then I call myself Carpus.”

Pastors are called to model “Jesus Like Love, Acceptance & Forgiveness!”

By reflecting the characteristics detailed in 1 Corinthians 13…

“If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.

“Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.
Love never dies.”
~1st Corinthians 13, The Message

The Ethiopian Eu**ch

26-28 “Later God’s angel spoke to Philip: “At noon today I want you to walk over to that desolate road that goes from Jerusalem down to Gaza.” He got up and went. He met an Ethiopian eu**ch coming down the road. The eu**ch had been on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem and was returning to Ethiopia, where he was minister in charge of all the finances of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians. He was riding in a chariot and reading the prophet Isaiah.

29-30 The Spirit told Philip, “Climb into the chariot.” Running up alongside, Philip heard the eu**ch reading Isaiah and asked, “Do you understand what you’re reading?”

31-33 He answered, “How can I without some help?” and invited Philip into the chariot with him. The passage he was reading was this:

As a sheep led to slaughter,
and quiet as a lamb being sheared,
He was silent, saying nothing.
He was mocked and put down, never got a fair trial.
But who now can count his kin
since he’s been taken from the earth?
34-35 The eu**ch said, “Tell me, who is the prophet talking about: himself or some other?” Philip grabbed his chance. Using this passage as his text, he preached Jesus to him.

36-39 As they continued down the road, they came to a stream of water. The eu**ch said, “Here’s water. Why can’t I be baptized?” He ordered the chariot to stop. They both went down to the water, and Philip baptized him on the spot. When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of God suddenly took Philip off, and that was the last the eu**ch saw of him. But he didn’t mind. He had what he’d come for and went on down the road as happy as he could be.”
-Acts 8:26-40 (The Message)

Matthew 25: 34-36 (The Message)

34-36 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Enter, you who are blessed by my Father! Take what’s coming to you in this kingdom. It’s been ready for you since the world’s foundation. And here’s why:

I was hungry and you fed me,
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink,
I was homeless and you gave me a room,
I was shivering and you gave me clothes,
I was sick and you stopped to visit,
I was in prison and you came to me.’

Prayer is more than presenting a list of requests to God. It's slowing down long enough to hear His voice. It's bringing Him our fears, hopes, questions, and gratitude... and then resting in His presence. Some of the most meaningful moments with God happen not when we're speaking, but when we're listening. 🙏

God is always listening to us, but perhaps today the invitation is to pause long enough to listen to Him. His peace, wisdom, and guidance are often found in places the world rushes past. If you'd like more encouragement like this throughout the week, we'd love for you to join our free weekly devotional and explore our worship playlists designed to help you slow down, spend time with God, and create space to hear His voice. Everything is linked in our bio.

What Wonderous Love!

O Lord, you have been our dwelling place : through every generation.

~ Scripture~
Hear my teaching, O my people : incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
I will open my mouth in a parable : I will declare the mysteries of ancient times.
That which we have heard and known, and what our forefathers have told us : we will not hide from their children.
We will recount to generations to come the praiseworthy deeds and the power of the LORD: and the wonderful works he has done.
~Psalm 78:1-4

O Lord, you have been our dwelling place : through every generation.

Ignatius of Antioch said, “Take heed, then, to come together often to give thanks to God, and show his praise. For when you come frequently together in the same place, the powers of Satan are destroyed, and his fiery darts of sin fall back, worthless. For your unity and harmonious faith prove his destruction, and the torment of his assistants. Nothing is better than Christ’s peace, by which all war, both of heavenly and earthly spirits, is brought to an end.”
