Today is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the season of Lent.

This is a season of reflection, looking toward the light of Easter. The word “Lent” comes from the old English word for lengthen – the lengthening days of spring. It is a time of preparation with forty days of fasting and reflection.

🏈🥣 Souper Bowl of Caring – Noisy Collection! 🥣🏈

Start collecting those coins! On Sunday, February 8 (Super Bowl Sunday), First United Church of Arvada will hold our annual Souper Bowl of Caring / Noisy Collection — and we want to hear you make some noise!

Our kids and youth will be collecting loose change during worship (cash and checks are welcome too!), with all donations going to Community Table to help meet the growing needs right here in our community. We’ll also be collecting non-perishable food items.

As we cheer on our favorite teams, let’s also come together to tackle hunger and share God’s love in a tangible way. 💙

🕯️🎄✨ Christmas Eve Candlelight Service – 5:30 PM ✨🎄🕯️

On Christmas Eve, we invite you to join us at First United Church of Arvada for a beautiful Candlelight Service beginning at 5:30 PM.

This special service will include Christmas music, readings and poetry, a visit from Mary and Joseph on their way to the stable, and our beloved “live” Nativity — a meaningful and memorable way to celebrate the birth of Christ. 🌟

The service will be offered in person and on Zoom, so all are welcome to join us wherever you are.

🍪 Stay for Cookies & Fellowship!
Following the service, please join us for cookies and warm fellowship — and we’d love your help! If you’re willing to bake a batch or pick up treats from the store, your contribution would be greatly appreciated.

We freeze extras to keep them fresh

Please label donations with what they are, the date brought, and any notes such as gluten-free or contains nuts

Thank you to our Congregational Care team and to everyone who helps make this evening welcoming and joyful. 💛

🐭🎄 Mouse House Christmas Shop – Coming December 14! 🎁🐭

The Mouse House Christmas Shop is a treasured tradition at First United Church of Arvada — a special opportunity for children to shop for gifts for family and friends for just a quarter or two per item! Every gift is donated by our generous congregation.

🗓️ Mouse House will take place Sunday, December 14, after worship.
All proceeds will be donated by Christian Education to an organization in need.

🤝 Volunteers needed!
We are also looking for helpers to assist kids while they shop and to work at the wrapping table. If you are available, please contact the Church Office — we’d love your help!

🎁 If you have items kids would enjoy giving, please start gathering them now and bring them to the church. We’re looking for very gently used items or new items (especially things like lotions, candles, and small gift items), as well as gift bags and tissue paper.

Thank you for supporting this sweet tradition and helping our children experience the joy of giving. 💛

Advent Sunday – The Season Begins! ✨🕯️🌺

The season of Advent begins Sunday, November 30, and we warmly invite you to join us at First United Church of Arvada as we enter this sacred time of anticipation, hope, and preparation for the celebration of Christ’s birth.

This year, we’re also offering a special Advent Devotional for your personal use — “Magnify: Mary’s Song and the Magnificent Women of Advent.” Elements from this devotional will be woven into our worship throughout the season as we reflect together on faith, courage, and God’s unfolding promise. 🙏

Print copies will be available starting Sunday, November 16.

A digital version is also available — contact Kathy Hine in the church office to receive one.
