As part of our second annual Field of Heroes, members of our community have chosen to dedicate flags in honor or memory of military service members and first responders who have given so much through their service and sacrifice.

This slideshow shares the names of those special honorees. Each name represents a life, a story, and a legacy of service—and each flag standing in our field is a visible expression of gratitude from friends, families, and neighbors throughout Nelson County.
We are honored to recognize these individuals and deeply thankful for every person who sponsored a flag and helped make this year's Field of Heroes possible. ❤️🤍💙

Meet Justin! Our new Interim Ministry of Music Leader! While we don’t have an organ (yet), Justin beautifully plays the piano for us on Sunday mornings! And…he sings beautifully, too! We hope you enjoy his special arrangement of Blessed Assurance on the organ - and will perhaps join us for Sunday services starting at 9 AM in September to hear more of Justin’s gifts of music!

This Saturday, hundreds of American flags will begin filling the lawn of Nelson United Methodist Church as we prepare for our 2026 Field of Heroes, on display September 1–15.

Before we fill the field, there is still time to add something very special to it: the name of someone who matters to you.

Sponsor a flag in honor or memory of a military service member or first responder, and their name will be included among the honorees recognized during our special Field of Heroes church service and community tribute.

Who comes to mind when you think of service?

Maybe it's a grandfather who served in the Army.
A mother or father who wore our nation's uniform.
A neighbor who spent years answering calls with the local volunteer fire department.
An EMT who showed up when someone needed help most.
A police officer who dedicated a career to protecting others.
A friend whose service and sacrifice deserves to be remembered.

These are the people Field of Heroes was created to honor. ❤️

⏰ New Worship Time Starting Sept. 6! ⏰

Heads up, church family! Starting Sunday, September 6, our worship service time is temporarily changing from 11:00 AM to 9:00 AM for September and October. Our Church Council will re-evaluate this trial schedule in mid-October to make a final decision on our permanent service time moving forward.

🎵 Special Announcement: We are also thrilled to welcome Justin Page as our interim minister of music! He will be leading our music and accompaniment throughout this period.

The Field is Beginning to Grow!

If you've driven by Nelson United Methodist Church recently, you may have noticed the first American flags beginning to appear on our front lawn. These flags are just a small preview of what's to come as we prepare to once again transform the church grounds into our Field of Heroes this September.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we've already raised over $1,135 toward this year's Field of Heroes! ❤️

Every sponsored flag honors the service and sacrifice of a military service member or first responder while also supporting Nelson County's volunteer fire and rescue departments.

There is still plenty of time to be part of this meaningful community tradition.
