Today's sermon comes from the Gospel of John's 11th chapter. We follow the steps of Jesus after learning of Lazerus being sick. Martha and Mary wait as Jesus delays his travels to them. Jesus arrives after Lazerus has been in the tomb for 4 days. Martha meets Christ with blame and Mary doesn't even come to see him. They react with the belief that it is too late.
"Waiting is the hardest part" according to Tom Petty. For Martha and Mary this was true. Even Christ felt sorrow in having to arrive when Lazerus was in the tomb. As Christians we know that death is not the end. It was not until Lazerus was raised that others could have this assurance.
We take this story as Christians as an example of a truth. That truth being that God will always reveal himself. Even in the darkest moments where we cannot see him. God is with us always and his purpose will be known in time. "Waiting is the hardest part", but that wait is only part of the story with Christ.

There was a lot of interruptions during the broadcast, so it seems appropriate to provide some cliffnotes.
The message was from Romans 8
Paul talks about our adoption into the family of God and the difference in the meaning that we give adoption now and the meaning it carried in that time period. There was no distinction between birth and adoption during that time. Save that adoption is an active choice. The hope that we have in our adoption is one that looms large in the face of troubles this world brings.
We have a tendency to either be overly pessimistic or optimistic. With the hope we have through our adoption (through Christ) we know that nothing in this fallen world can overcome that. The world is ruled by sin. Suffering is inevitable. Our hope in our adoption helps us as it helps others. It is a light in a dark world.
Through our hope other may rejoice in a loving God.

Today's message comes from Acts 8:26. We follow Phillip and the message he recieved to join an Ethiapoian in reading scripture.
How are we given messages in this modern day? Is it an audible noise, an urge, a dream?
Often we experience and unshakable feeling.
How do we interpret if a message is from God?
Phillip 1) recieved a message 2) heard scripture 3) a need was spoken 4) could see the spirit at work.
There are different filters that we use to help discern a message. One thing to remember is that the Holy Spirit is a gift that we must share. The Holy Spirit is a shared experience and not something to keep private.
