North Texas Genesis Group

North Texas Genesis Group The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was organized by God to assist in His work to bring to pass the salvation and exaltation of His children.

The Church invites all to come unto Christ and be perfected in Him. 2 Nephi 26:33 The primary purposes of the Arlington Texas Stake Genesis Group (the “Group”) will be to: (1) further the various purposes of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints [specifically, helping members live the gospel of Jesus Christ, gathering Israel through missionary work, caring for the poor and needy, and en

abling the salvation of the dead (see Sec. 2.2 of Handbook 2)]; (2) build the faith and testimonies of black Church members; (3) explore, with an attitude of love, respect, and inclusiveness, the unique history, interests, and challenges of black Latter-day Saints; and (4) provide opportunities for the full community of Saints to support and strengthen each other. Anticipated Benefits:

As a practical matter, we expect that a successful Group will aid in the retention of black converts, contribute to an increased activity rate of black members, and provide priesthood leadership training and development opportunities for black men in the stake. We also believe that an active Group has the potential to energize family history and temple work in the stake. The community created by the Group will enhance feelings of connection to other members of the Church and to the Church itself. Its presence will send a strong message of inclusion. It will serve as a constant reminder that all Church members, regardless of their race or the color of their skin, belong to the Church of Jesus Christ.

The Denton Stake hosted the first Saints in Unity event for 2026. You can see the highlight video shared on the Church of Jesus Christ in North Texas Newsroom.

Keynote speakers Carol Lawrence-Costley and Mauli Bonner as well as Spencer Smith of the Church of Jesus Christ and Bishop Edward Udell of Christ Holy Sanctified Church of America, Inc. (CHSC). Special thanks to the OneVoice Community Outreach Choir for their worship music!

MAULI BONNER, a multi-faceted talent in the music and film industries. He develops and writes for Grammy award winning pop artists worldwide, and he is an award-winning writer and director. He currently is working on a six-part miniseries about Elijah Abel, an early Black Latter-day Saint, priesthood holder and confidant of Joseph
CAROL LAWRENCE-COSTLEY, was born in London, England, to parents of Jamaican ancestry. She received a master's degree from Brigham Young University in social work and currently helps individuals overcome addictions.

She served as a member of the Young Women General Board for the Church from 2018 to 2023. In 2025 she was a featured speaker for the Genesis Group and the FollowHim podcast.

I had the privilege and honor of participating in a fundraiser for LDS Gathering of Tribes, at The Compass Gallery in Provo, as they work to raise funds to bring Indigenous Youth from Arizona & New Mexico here for April 2026 General Conference.

We are saddened to announce the passing of Elaine Weary, a long time North Texas Genesis Group member.

Elaine’s funeral service is scheduled for:
Thursday, November 14th, 2024 at 11:00 am

Both the viewing, which starts at 9:30 am, and the funeral service which starts at 11:00 am will be held at:

Elaine has been a member in several Latter-day Saint congregations in Fort Worth, and Arlington.

She loved participating in Genesis Group events, as well as serving in many positions in her congregations as children’s primary teacher, community service coordinator, and most recently as Relief Society President.
