Forty-five youth, campus, and young adult ministry leaders from across the Diocese of Arlington returned home yesterday from three days of prayer, formation, and fellowship at this yearβs Annual Meeting. This time away, set at Loyola on the Potomac, offered several opportunities for spiritual and professional enrichment as well as forming and strengthening community bonds. Personal and communal prayer took place at Mass, Liturgy of the Hours, Eucharistic Adoration, and personal reflection. Formation was offered through talks, presentations, and homilies. Fellowship was experienced during conversations over meals (especially our delicious crab feast) and good-natured competition during our time-honored favorite, βSalad Bowl,β and a team scavenger hunt. Dr. James Pauley, Theology and Catechetics professor at Franciscan University of Steubenville, served as the retreat director and encouraged the group to reflect upon their personal relationship with Christ, how silence can deepen that relationship, and how to nourish that relationship to be able to serve as the Lord wishes. Special thanks to: Stephen Carattini, President and CEO of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Arlington, who provided insight on what Catholic Charities offers and how we can help our young people and their families; Father John Heisler, Father Jack Peterson, Y.A. and Father Andrew Haissig for providing the Sacrament of Reconciliation; Father Rich Miserendino who served as our spiritual director and offered the sacraments; and Marie Miller who provided beautiful music to guide us deeper into prayer.
