This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. — Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. The Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: and when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
He ... kneeled down, and prayed. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
It was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: ... they took Jesus, and led him away, ... into a place called ... Golgotha: where they crucified him.
Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: therefore let us keep the feast.

1 My soul, praise Yahweh, and all that is within me, praise His holy name.
2 My soul, praise the LORD, and do not forget all His benefits.
3 He forgives all your sin; He heals all your diseases.
4 He redeems your life from the Pit; He crowns you with faithful love and compassion.
5 He satisfies you with goodness; your youth is renewed like the eagle.
6 The LORD executes acts of righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.
7 He revealed His ways to Moses, His deeds to the people of Israel.
8 The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and rich in faithful love.

10 He has not dealt with us as our sins deserve or repaid us according to our offenses.

Life. The life which qualifies us for the Kingdom of God is "from above"—John 3:3, 5. The word "again" should be "above," and is so given in John 3:31.

Church Membership places upon us an inescapable obligation—an obligation to make the church and its work first in our lives. It is an obligation to use our time and our talents for the glory of God, an obligation to support the work with our presence, our influence, and our means. Churches are never stronger than their membership; and a membership of worldly, careless, negligent, stunted Christians will prevent a church from accomplishing much for the Lord. There is a need for every member to be consecrated, trained, and enlisted in active service. We are under obligation to be the very best members possible under the leading of the Lord.

If any man is converted, it is because the Holy Ghost is come into him ; if any sinner lives for a time the divine life, it is because the Holy Ghost is dwelling in him. But the Bible assures us that this Holy Ghost is the abiding seed of spiritual life, the earnest of heaven, and the seal of our redemption. Believers are "born by the word of God, of a living and incorruptible seed, which abideth and liveth forever," The Apostle Paul declares that they receive the earnest of the Spirit, and that his indwelling is "the earnest of the purchased possession." The same apostle says (Eph. 4:30): "Grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption." (See 1 John. 3.9).

Truth for today.— We who follow Christ need the same prod to faith that John did. In the prologue, he declared, "All things were made by him" (1:3). Our discipleship is not of a mild-mannered teacher who pleads for loyalty. We follow One whose power made the worlds. He speaks and everything in nature recognizes his authority. He has the rights of Creator.
