By these He has given us very great and precious promises, so that through them you may share in the divine nature, escaping the corruption that is in the world because of evil desires. (2 Peter 1:4, HCSB)

As I stand at this pulpit, I will be standing on the promises of God. Peter describes these as precious promises meaning they have no flaws. A promise is only as good as the person making it. God is good! All the time! All the time, God is good. He is the epitome of good. Thus, His promises are precious.

In January of last year we began a series in 1 Peter called “Hope Amidst Hardships.” Sunday we begin a series in 2nd Peter titled “Know the Truth.” During the writing of both letters, Peter is dealing with the false teaching that “mystic intuition” provides some with a “secret knowledge” of God. Combatting this false teaching is a focus of 2nd Peter. Knowledge of God comes from God Himself. God reveals Himself to believers as believers grow in their relationship with Christ through prayer and the word of God.

It was good to see Jim B. From the Gideons Sunday morning. Praise God that they are still handing out New Testaments and Bibles to students, hotels/motels, prisons and countries all over the world. Brothers and sisters, share the truth with someone. Share at least one verse from scripture with at least one other person today. Encourage a believer or plant a seed with a nonbeliever. Either way, spread the truth.
