Please welcome our New Pastor,
Rev. David George and his wife, Cheryl!

Ordained in 1986, David and Cheryl have shared ministry in several states. David was born in Oklahoma City and completed his bachelor's degree in psychology from Oklahoma City University in 1984. Following a desire to understand the spiritual side of the human experience, the family moved to Louisville, KY to pursue a Master of Divinity degree. Upon graduation they moved to Mississippi to serve in full-time ministry.

After 3½ years, the Georges returned home to Oklahoma and accepted a call to pastor 1st Baptist Church of Eufaula. Later the family would serve churches in Boise City, Bartlesville, and Sulphur.

Following a time out of ministry, the Georges moved to Florida to care for an elderly Aunt. This move proved most important in reconsidering the call to ministry. Returning to Sulphur, David taught High School for Sulphur Schools including the subjects of Chemistry, Biology, English, Special Education, Psychology, Sociology, Writing, Speech and Humanities 1 and 2 - concurrent courses for Murray State College.

For the past 7 years, David and Cheryl have shared in ministry with Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church.

The Georges have 3 children, Nathan and his wife Aileen of Fayetteville, AR; Ryan of Nashville, TN; and Kara of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Pentecost comes fifty days after Easter and is celebrated as the “birthday of the church.” Birthdays, by their very nature, are occasions of celebration.

Pentecost was already a holy day for the Jewish faith, but on that first Pentecost after Jesus’ resurrection and ascension, something very special and exciting happened in Jerusalem on that Jewish holy day. The text that describes that day is found in Acts 2:1-21 when the Holy Spirit came upon the gathered disciples and empowered them to work they never imagined they would be able to accomplish without Jesus’ bodily presence in their midst.

In our worship service on May 24th we will hear a presentation of that story
Tongues of Fire. In addition there will be a special litany for Pentecost and our usual inspirational music. Symbols for the Spirit include a dove and also
flames—tongues of fire, thus the color red. We are all encouraged to wear red or orange that Sunday to celebrate together the Holy Spirit’s presence with us as we worship.

May this year be filled with the celebrative colors of a flame as we are
revived in our faith and in our discipleship and enlivened to service in Christ’s name! Come and let’s celebrate!
