Camp Living Waters Humboldt

Camp Living Waters Humboldt An Episcopal Summer Camp for Youth in the Heart of the Redwood Valley Camp Living Waters is a week-long Episcopalian summer camp in the heart of Redwood Valley.

We are a non-profit camp based at St. Albans Church in Arcata, California and draw our staff members from the faith communities of the North Coast. Trained staff members from faith communities lead, supervise and encourage campers and counselors. Our week is based around a daily schedule including crafts, outdoor activities, swimming, Bible discussion, worship and nightly campfire, with additional

special activities throughout the week such as stargazing and archery. Campers from age 9 to 15 make new friends and explore their faith. Counselors get to do that and learn leadership skills in a supportive atmosphere. History:

Camp Living Waters was established in 1993 by Susan Armstrong and Greg Conners of St. Alban's Arcata and Christ Church Eureka as a family camp. The camp developed into a joint kids camp, and has evolved since then into the week-long camp we hold today. The camp’s leadership and staffing has been passed along through members of the St. Albans in Arcata, St. Paul in Crescent City and Christ Church in Eureka parishes with each new wave of staff adding layers of tradition and experience. Throughout the years our camp has grown to include a wider range of churches and reaches wider through our communities while maintaining a cohesive small community atmosphere. Campers and counselors have continued to attend through the years, progressing through the ranks to young adult and staff members, including directing the camp. Today our camp thrives on and exists as an extension of the community-minded nature of Humboldt and Del Norte counties and serves many underprivileged children in our communities.

Many people spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut in the fields.

Then those who went ahead and those who followed were shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!”

Camp Living Waters is a week-long Episcopal summer camp. It is a warm, welcoming and joyful community that encourages diversity. It is a non-profit camp based at St. Alban's parish in Arcata and draws its staff members from the faith communities of the north coast who lead, supervise and encourage campers and counselors. The week is based around a daily schedule including crafts, outdoor activities, swimming, Bible discussion, worship, and nightly campfire, with additional special activities throughout the week such as stargazing and archery. Campers aged 9 to 15 make new friendships and explore their faith and ask questions; counselors get to do that and learn leadership skills in a supportive atmosphere. The week is spent living and building a Christian community based on the values of love, service and fun.

Andrew Curtis, who attended Camp Living Waters for six years, described it as follows, " Two words: God's love. This is the entire purpose of the camp. We find it in a multitude of ways: the cool waters of the creek, the fun activities, the delicious food, the support of the staff and counselors. This is the one time in the summer that I look forward to most."

Camp Living Waters is made possible through donations from throughout the Episcopal Diocese of Northern California, Episcopal Community Services, Christ Church Eureka, St. Francis Fortuna, Episcopal Foundation of Northern California, and others.

Tuition for the camp is $200 and includes five nights lodging, meals, and activities. For information or to register for the Camp go to www.camplivingwatershumboldt.org or call St. Alban's Episcopal Church at (707) 822-4102. Contact St. Alban's if you are interested in a campership (scholarship). We encourage those who would love to send their child to camp but cannot afford it, to apply for a campership. No child should be denied attending summer camp due to lack of funds.

Hello Camp Family! Do you like singing? Jesus? Jokes? Chopping? We are re-vamping the way we staff the kitchen to make it easier on everyone involved. To this end, we are looking for some more kitchen volunteers to fill out two teams so no-one has to work in the kitchen all day! You can volunteer for a day or two or the whole week depending on your energy and schedule, so if anyone feels like joining in on this joyful and delicious ministry, and getting a free tee-shirt, email me at [email protected] :D

Statement from Presiding Bishop Michael Curry on the passing of Archbishop Desmond Tutu
December 26, 2021
Office of Public Affairs

With the passing of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, a true friend, colleague, and mentor—and a genuinely humble, great soul—has gone before us. He has passed through the gate of death into the arms of the God who gave him life.

While on this earth, he sought to follow Jesus of Nazareth in God’s way of love and life. In so doing, he showed us how to live God’s dream as children of the one God and creator of all.

So, even in our sorrow that he is no longer walking among us, we can thank God that he did.

Perhaps we best give thanks by honoring his legacy—not merely with lip service to racial justice and reconciliation, but with lives dedicated to this work. We do this by learning to live together as the children and family of God, no longer hurting each other or God’s creation, but together living the dream God intended. For in God’s dream, as the Hebrew prophet Isaiah said, “they will not hurt or destroy on all my holy mountain; for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.”

To borrow from a friend who texted me on Archbishop Tutu’s passing, may the knowledge of his life and heart keep us all strong, good, kind, and loving.

May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
