JOHN 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

ADVENT DAY 25 The greatest gift of all is Jesus. He is the reason for the season. He came to die so we might live forever with Him.

I PETER 1:19-20 "...but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. He was chosen before the creation of the world but was revealed in these last times for your sake."

ADVENT DAY 24 Can you imagine the amazement of the shepherds when a host of angels appeared in the sky singing and proclaiming the Lamb of God, the Savior of the World? He came for our sake, for the shepherds, for everyone who will invite Him in.

MARK 10:45 "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

ADVENT DAY 23 Few recognized Jesus as the Messiah because He ushers in an upside down Kingdom. The rule of Herod was brutal and self-centered. The Ruler of the Universe came to serve and give his life as a ransom of many.

JOHN 1:29 "The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, 'Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!'"

ADVENT DAY 22 The baby in a manager is a serene Christmas nativity. But the true reason He came was to be the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

ISAIAH 53:1,3 "Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces, he was despised, and we held him in low esteem."

ADVENT DAY 21 For many of us, Christmas is a hard time of year because of loss, sadness and pain. What comfort it brings to know that Jesus is acquainted with it all. He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering and familiar with pain. He gets us in our humanity because He experienced it.

LUKE 2:28-30 "Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying: 'Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation.'"

ADVENT DAY 20 The devout man Simeon blessed baby Jesus and His parents at the Temple, taking the infant in his arms, praising God for fulfilling His promise that he would see the Messiah before dying, and prophesying that Jesus would bring salvation, be a light to the Gentiles, and cause both the rise and fall of many in Israel, while also foretelling Mary's future sorrow. His prayer became the "Nunc Dimittis" or Song of Simeon, an ancient hymn used daily in Christian Evening Prayer (Compline) as a peaceful closing, giving thanks and entrusting oneself to God's care:

"Now, Lord, you let your servant go in peace: your word has been fulfilled."
"My own eyes have seen the salvation which you have prepared in the sight of every people:"
"A light to reveal you to the nations and the glory of your people Israel."
"Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen."

MATTHEW 2:9-11 "After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh."

ADVENT DAY 19 We three kings of orient are
Bearing gifts we traverse afar
Field and fountain
Moor and mountain
Following yonder star

Born a King on Bethlehem's plain
Gold I bring to crown Him again
King for ever, ceasing never
Over us all to reign

Frankincense to offer have I
Incense owns a Deity nigh
Prayer and praising, all men raising
Worship Him, God most high

O star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to thy perfect light

MATTHEW 1:1, 20-23 "This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham...

But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, 'Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.'

All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 'The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel' (which means 'God with us')."

ADVENT DAY 18 Prophets, dreams, angels. Joseph had a lot to consider as he faced a tough decision, a life-altering decision and one that could change the world, but also risk bringing shame to his name. The angel reminded him of where he had come from, which oriented him to where he was going. How do we make tough decisions? What do we consider? How can we go forward an not be afraid?

PHILIPPIANS 2:10 "That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth."

ADVENT DAY 17 When Jesus was born, He brought a name and face to the Creator and Ruler over all things and deserving of every knee bowing before Him.

REVELATION 11:15 "The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said: 'The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah, and he will reign forever and ever.'”

ADVENT DAY 16 The coming of the Messiah at Christmas culminates when He comes again, this time to rule over heaven and earth forever. But first, the conquering king is born a baby. Most could not accept the idea of the forever king being born a baby. Can you?
